Kevin Smith Has Seen Zack and Miri: “It’s Fucking Astounding!”

Start getting jealous again, because Kevin Smith has seen another highly anticipated upcoming film. After viewing early screenings of The Dark Knight, Watchmen, and the new Star Trek film, Smith has become the first person to see an early screener of Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

He posted to his blog last night:

Fucking saw Zack and Miri last night. I can’t say much because of the fucking NDA I made myself sign, but I can say this: it’s fucking astounding! You know that feeling you had when you were fucking watching the first Clerks movie and you were like “wow, this guy really fucking knows what he’s doing” and then the fucking feeling you got while fucking watching Clerks II that like “wow, this guy knows what the fuck is up again.” Multiply that by a fucking billion. This fucking film is in very fucking capable fucking hands.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno is being directed by Kevin Smith, who says he chose to screen the film early to himself “because I fucking like everything as long as I get to be the first one to fucking see it.”

Addressing the haters, he said, “Anyone who is worried about this film has no reason to be fucking worried anymore. This is faithful fucking grade-A Kevin Smith material. His best fucking work ever? Probably. No – fuck yes.”

“There’s some really fucking interesting stuff the director does in this one that I’m not allowed to give away,” added Smith. “All I can fucking say is, as a longtime Kevin Smith fanboy myself, this film is a 100% fucking salute to all of his fans and followers. You will not be fucking disappointed.”

Zack and Miri Make a Porno is written and directed by Kevin Smith and will be released in October.

@akumi-

I agree that part of the fun is that people don't realize it's a joke, but I like to try and make it more and more obvious the deeper you get into the piece (for example, at the end I note he's the writer/director). Perhaps some of the problem is that people are skimming and missing the more subtle cues, as you suggest.

And I find the implication that he'll say any movie is good so long as he gets to see it first, very founded. (Granted, I'll accept he actually liked it, maybe even some other people liked it - but they shouldn't have.)

For the most part though, I do agree. He has good taste. I just find it funny he gets to see everything early and loves it.

He did see those three movies, and he liked all of them, but so what? The Dark Knight is a movie that almost all critics have liked, and the other two haven't been shown to critics. The implication that he'll say any movie is good so long as he gets to see it first is really unfounded.

Anyways, I think the reason some people didn't realize that it is a joke is because they were unaware that Kevin Smith wrote and directed the movie in question, and even though you did have him remark that he made himself sign the NDA and that Kevin Smith was the director of the film, I think a lot of people will either overlook those things or assume they are mistakes. Hence there is no easy way to make it obvious that it's a joke for people who are not overly familiar with what you're talking about. However, I think the fact that some people are going to not realize it's a joke is part of the fun.

I'm sorry I upset you Zero. I actually had no idea you spoke with my boss, but I will talk with him if you'd like.

I write to make people laugh, not to piss them off. I can't imagine why I'd want to do otherwise. For what it's worth, I'm somewhat astounded people take these posts seriously.

Put simply, the comments I like seeing are of the "haha" - not "wtf" - sort.

Thank you for clarifying your position though. A satirist isn't doing it right if he isn't pissing off someone.

Lol.And someone got pissed-off 'cause he didn't get the joke.

Furthermore, I will add this, you seem to think that getting people upset to cause feedback is the way to run a website, but it's not, you will be caught, and you will go down. It only takes one person to expose a lie and then you lose all your credibility.

Did that come out clear enough?

People are not ants. You do not pour hot water on them and watch them scurry about and laugh, if you keep doing this to people eventually someone will do this to you.

You know exactly what I am talking about. You know that I had a talk with your boss, so now you're trying to get me to say what I shouldn't say in front of all these people, because you believe you are smart. So I will make it clear without doing that.

You, Jared, write stuff, to piss people off on purpose, call it whatever you want, and post it up on the site as "An Article"
I have a bone to pick with ANYONE, who lies to get people to do what they want. And you, having little to no mind of your own, get these people mad, riled up, or giving feed back on spill.com by writing articles to make them upset.

So here it is again: Jared gets

@Q-

No worries. I do try and make the material seem obviously in jest, but..... yeah perhaps I'm fighting a losing battle. I'll say this, though: I'm glad you liked it. I'd rather have a few people appreciating what's going on, than a lot of people getting a much simpler, less sophisticated joke.

That said, Kevin Smith fucking wrote and directed this film. I'm not sure how to more clearly show that this is a joke other than to put a huge header that says SATIRE at the top. Frankly, that's no fun.

@Zero-

You seem to have a bone to pick with me frequently, but to be honest, for the life of me I can't really understand what you're saying lately. I'm eager to please everyone (if possible) so I'm happy to accommodate your concerns if you could express them a bit more clearly.
