It would seem that me & Walt Disney have an uneasy friendship. I absolutely respect what he stood for, bringing a certain magic that is missing from most films. But, now it has only become concerned with TRENDS. You know what I mean. Seriously, who the hell is gonna remember or even talk about High School Musical the way we talk about The Little Mermaid? Will anyone remember Pirates of The Carribean for anything besides Johnney Depp and Orlando Bloom? ...and, let's not even discuss 'Beverly Hills Chihuahua'. Try and find anything, but Disney is sh*t now. It sucks to see something so pivotal in my childhood go to waste.
The only mark of quality in Disney nowadays is Pixar. It seems like they are the only ones that pull their creative weight there. For every dime a dozen cliche-ridden crapfest that comes out under Disney's banner, there is one Pixar movie a year that shows up and cleans house. I still hold that Toy Story 2 is not only the best animated film, but also one of the best films I have ever seen. They consistently bring great and interesting movies (minus Cars and Monsters Inc.). So, now we have Wall-E.
To put it mildly... Wall-E is about as close to a perfect film as you are likely to see in this lifetime. There, I said it. IT'S PERFECT. There is not a single flaw that I can point out, even after having seen it 6 hours ago, I cannot point out a single bad thing. It's PERFECT. My God, is this a great film. Where do I even start?...
The movie is about this robot named Wall-E. It takes place 700 years after the Earth has been deemed inhabitable and the human race is sent to live in a colony in space. The planet is a dump, and Wall-E is the lone robot left to clean up the skyscraper size piles of trash. He's been alone for all these years, his only friend is a cockroach. But, all of that changes when a spaceship lands on Earth, and a robot named EVE is sent to look for plant life as a sign that humans can come back to earth. Wall-E falls in love quickly...
What follows is easily the most interesting film that I've seen in years. Not only is it a great kids movie, it respects kids and doesn't just 'pander' to them. Because, this is some dark stuff here. The first few minutes of the film realkly draw from science fiction for a foreboding mood. But, it takes off immediately into cuteness, then it evolves from cuteness to a film that actually holds it's weight.
I mean, there is almost NO dialogue throughout the majority of this film, so most of the storytelling is told visually. ANd, the visuals rank among the best that Pixar has ever done. And, it has a charm that just sucks you into the events. It seriously DOES NOT get any better than this. It just doesn't, and I wish that Disney would look at Pixar's approach, and stop making crappy films.
In other words, Wall-E is amazing. You should stop what you're doing right now, and see it... now. And, if you don't like it, then you are an unhappy human being who should be shanked... niggaz.
Score: 10 (out of 10) = DOPENESS
