Natalie Portman Says No to More Star Wars

Natalie Portman wants us to know that she's done being in Star Wars. Really? Oh 'cause we were all hoping and praying there would be another big digital boring mess with you dressed up like you're in a all-drag queen stage production of Barbarella.

“I’m so honored to have been a part of [the ‘Star Wars’ prequels. I got to basically latch on to this thing, that was a huge success before I was ever involved.”

That said, don’t expect to ever see Princess Padme and her trippy hairdos again. “I spent ten years working on these films. It’s time to let it continue on its own.”

“When something works you don’t touch it. You try to create something new that’s positive.”

Natalie is as kind and gracious as always. I love Miss Portman, I really do. I think she's a wonderful actress and entertainer and have enjoyed her self-deprecating antics on Saturday Night Live as well. That being said, Star Wars still "works" in the same way McDonalds does; it's a huge money making machine. If you're looking for quality instead, you're going to want to drive a little further into town and find the locally owned award winning Serenity or Battlestar Galactica if you want a memorable and well made science fiction hamburger.

Unfortunately, Princess Amidala isn't the only role she doesn't want to reprise. Word was out awhile back about the possibility of a sequel to Luc Besson's wonderful The Professional (or Leon to you Director's cut owners). That's a negatory as well.

“I really love that film, and I would work with [director] Luc Besson again, in a second, but [not on a sequel].”

So there you have it. One polite goodbye and one cool rumor quashed. At least this guarantees that Leon won't have to sit through Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium 2.

once again its all about star wars. the old ones that is.

i liked the prequels, they had interesting ideas and tried giving our favorite characters more back story increasing the depth in the story. but as for the plot, they focused on the wrong things, and added so much CG it didnt even feel like a star wars movie to begin with.

plus George only did it for the benjamins

I never read the Brin take on it. All too true and bookmarkable.

Peaked with Empire every subsequent iteration just slightly hackier, to the point where I didn't even see the last one they made.

I resent George Lucas for taking TEH COOLEST idea in ALL of sci-fi (Force-wielding Jedi Knights with lightsabers) and cranking out such insipid storytelling and crap sequels. Fuck Jar Jar, I never got over Qui-Gon Jin having to take a mitichlorian reading with a sensor to figure out that he was in the presence of the possible Force-Messiah.

I'm with David Brin.

Jar Jar was one of the most annoying characters in cinematic history, If he didn't bother you, there is no medical explanation.

I never understood the hatred of the jar jar binks character. It was one of those situations where it became popular to hate a character and everyone latched on.

I had no idea that was her in The Professional. It has been such a long time since I saw that movie, and the one thing we loved was how much promotion milk got in the movie.

But yeah...how would a sequel be made for it??

I am a Starwars fan, perhaps even more then that, but I admit that the movies have been, eh..less then doing justice. While sad to see that she will not reprise a role, though I find it difficult to see her in any, unless she played perhaps a young Leia, which would be going back into old movie territory, it's really not needed. If any movies of the Starwars universe come out, it'll be beyond her character, or significantly before it.

That said and done, I have tremendous admiration for her as an actress and wish her well in what endeavors she takes on.
