How is it pretentious to call it the "Empire" of superhero movies? I could see comparing it to Shakespeare being seen as pretentious, but Star Wars? That seems more like a comparison which may simply be both appropriate and informative to the average reader, which is basically the opposite of what most people see as pretentious.
Also, repeating simple adjectives makes you pretentious? No, by pretty much any definition it's using a thesaurus too liberally that makes you pretentious.
