At eight years old Bruce Wayne sees his parents gunned down right in front of him. Many years later Bruce (Bale) has been chosen by Ra's al Ghul (Watanabe) and his right hand man Henri Ducard (Neeson) to join their League of Shadows. After his training is done he returns home to crusade and save Gotham City with the help of family butler Alfred (Caine), Wayne Enterprises employee Lucius Fox (Freeman), life long friend Rachel Dawes (Holmes), and the last honest cop in the city James Gordon (Oldman). He uses his childhood fear as his weapon and fear is the ultimate weapon
This movie got it right. Got it absolutely right!!! We must all fucking hail at the feet of Christopher Nolan, David Goyer, the producers Emma Thomas, Charles Roven, and Larry Franco, and Christian Bale for bringing the Batman movies and the character out of the fuck cellar from that so called movie Batman & Robin. Nolan co-wrote the movie with David Goyer who had been known for writing the Blade trilogy and they brought a real life feeling to Batman. Now the embrace this truly fine and perfect cast. Christian Bale is far and away the best actor ever to have played Batman AND Bruce Wayne. His Batman made us believe that this character could really excist and his Bruce Wayne was truly as Bruce Wayne was in the comic books as this foolish pretty playboy who no one would ever suspect of being the hero type. Now Katie Holmes was about the only what you call "bad apple" of the bunch but she wasn't really bad, she was just surrounded by much better actors. She was pretty okay in her role as Bruce's best friend and love interest and didn't play as like the damsal in distress. Now Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman both their roles as both mentors for Bruce Wayne and help for Batman. I could watch this two fine actors read books all day and never be bored. Now Gary Oldman brought his A gamn as Gordon playing him as straight as he could be as the true last honest cop in city were everyone seems to have a price. Now for the bad guys. Cillian Murphy was so scary and brilliant as Cran and Scarecrow, Neeson seem just so perfect for the role of Ducard which is something new for him, Watanabe was born to play Ra's al Ghul, and Wilkinson just had the right amount of evil as Carmine Falcone. Now Rutger Hauer was a real surprise. Now if only Batman could fight Roy Batty my life is complete! The score done here by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard is truly epic! This movie does not feel at all like a comic book and shouldn't even be called a comic book movie. Although at the moment it is the best comic book movie ever made. This movie is the greatest film i've ever seen. With The Dark Knight next week, that just might change.
