Movie Review: Beowulf Here we go folks another Big Hollywood adaptation of a book or poem starring an ensemble cast of huge stars including Anthony Hopkins, Ray Winstone, John Malkovich, and Angelina Jolie. Only this time, its motion captured which means all of the characters and backgrounds are in CGI and based on a legendary epic thousand year poem which literature teachers and college students all know but this younger generation does not. This poem is called Beowulf which the main story is this, the great warrior Beowulf and his army must destroy the evil monster, Grendel who is terrorizing the Scandinavian countryside and must kill Grendel’s Mother. This movie’s themes are very dark and gothic, but are also thrilling and exciting which has messages about Pride and truth of men. Also the voice acting in this film is excellent, Ray Winstone who supplies the voice of the title character is great and fierce and makes the movie even more enjoyable. Anthony Hopkins is Great fun as the king of the Scandinavian kingdom and a naked Angelina Jolie is very good as a very seductive and beautiful dangerous creature. Robin Wright Penn, John Maklovich, Alison Lohman, and Brendan Gleeson are also very good as supporting characters. The screenplay is very good which is written by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avery Which follows the poem very loosely, which is a good thing because of how long the poem was written and do a good job of adapting the poem so well that makes it watch able for this generation. Robert Zemeckis does a grand job of directing finally mastering this new technology 3D motion capture which I think will be the future of filmmaking and judging by this excellent film that will be fine with me and all of the moviegoers around the world. Bottom Line – Great Action, Good voice acting, excellent writing, epic direction, and beautiful 3D animation photography. Grade A+
