The Spiderwick Chronicles Movie review In the past few years we have seen numerous attempts for a new multimillion dollar big-budget family Fantasy epic Franchise like The Harry potter films. Some have succeeded (narnia films) but many disastrously failed (Golden Compass, Eragon).
Now the problem is with these fantasy films is that they are usually always based on Books that cause the film to be rushed and incohesive. That they constantly try to put masses of story into these films that just simply fail for that reason.
Now the main reason that this new movie is one the best fantasy film adaptations in an extensive time, for the reason that the books which the film is based on are books for extremely young youth. That features 3 pages for a chapter and illustrations that is shorter than a vacation travel guide. This helps it because it enhances the characters to make them resonance the true painfulness of divorce and family separation that always seems forced in films. The story which is about the grace family coming from the big apple to an old house that they’ve inherited from their great uncle Arthur spiderwick. Then eccentric things start to happen on the estate when one of the kids find a book that unravels the mystery around an invisible whimsical world inhabited by creatures. The writing is very significantly conceived in inventiveness that it begins with a well executed first half. That builds up the characters and story for a journey to this alternate realm to add into the equation that is not implausible and stays exciting the whole time without feeling cheated which is brilliant. The acting is exceptionally good with Freddie Highmore completely absorbing the complicated role playing two twins on a note of perfection. Nick Nolte as the animated molgarwrath is excruciatingly creepy whose character does not skimp on the horrific moments it has. There are some memorable supporting parts from Mary-Louise parker, David Strathairn and a sweet Joan Plowright. Mark waters incorporates a sense of wonderment in the direction that makes you want to see this world for yourself by using dynamic and original computer generated effects that are like a drug for the senses with all of the goblins, ogres moving and changing forms is jaw plummeting. Also he concludes the story in the climax with such emotional somber, humor, action, and great timing that make it have one of the unsurpassed final acts in a fantasy film in a long time. Now with this film being in actuality superior to a lot of other kid adventure films, the spiderwick chronicles gives a desperate much- needed boost to fantasy adventure genre.
Bottom line- great acting, exciting action, well executed direction and writing, Top grade family cinema.
