I’m sorry for all of you who were expecting an early review of
Eddie Murphy’s new movie
“Meet Dave” on Spill. We try so hard to stay on top of these things but it turns out we all missed the preview screening for it.

…BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ONE!
I won’t rehash for you the age old truth that worst sign for a film is when the studio tries to hide from the press. Undoubtedly, there’ll be some of you that’ll say,
“Maybe they know they have a silly-funny movie that know regular people will really like and they don’t want a bunch of snotty critics to ruin it!”
Hmmn…Let’s see. Here’s
Meet Dave in
Eddie Murphy’s own words:
“Dave is actually a spaceship, and on the surface he looks like a regular person, but there's a crew of little people inside that are controlling his every move “It wasn't a piece of cake. Playing Dave was really hard because there is supposed to be nothing there. So trying to play this character where there is nothing there, and the person is a little bit off and there's somebody inside like controlling his every response — that was kind of difficult.”
“I just wanted to do something kind of different. I’ve never played a spaceship before.”
Um…I stand corrected. Sounds like a
“real winner” to me, no question
From what I can gather the only preview there was of it in North America was at its world premiere in
Los Angeles. If you wanted beat
"the crowds” you would’ve had to have been invited to that
“star-studded" event (man, I gotta give these quotations a rest, my sarcasm muscle is throbbing) where everybody important showed up to see it. Like sexy co-stars,
Gabrielle Union and
Elizabeth Banks.

Really, the only one who, like us, didn’t see the film was, um…
EDDIE MURPHY!!

"Dave's not here, man."
His convenient excuse is that he was out of town filming
“A Thousand Words” which is being shot far on location in…
Los Angeles.
Wait!
What the--???
Oooooh, Eddie, that sly dog. Nice way to bail outtta seeing his own movie- not that anyone can really blame him after
Norbit,
Pluto Nash,
Daddy Care, etc.,etc., etc…
This comes just on the heels of his recent declaration to retire:
“I am planning to make movies until I am 50,” the 47-year-old star told TODAY’s Al Roker. “That's two years and eight months. Then I am going back to the stage.”
“I’d love to be on a Steven Spielberg set, Martin Scorsese set. But like I said, when I am 50, I'll be making movies for 30 years. That’s 30 years and almost 40 pictures, that's enough,” he said.
“Really?” Roker said, unable to quite believe a man whose movies have grossed more than $3 billion could really give it up. “You could walk away from doing this?”
“Absolutely,” Murphy said, dead serious. “Without question.”
Coincidentally,
I also considered retiring just to get out of having to see
Meet Dave.
Eddie Murphy might be “
So craaaaazzzy”, but he ain’t
stupid.
