Brett Ratner Takes a Hike off of Escape From New York

When I post remake news up in this here blog o' mine, you can usually expect it to be bad news...at least from my perspective. Unless it's something like Oceans 11 that actually needed a good remake, then I say forget the whole thing. I'm no more upbeat about the announced and completely unnecessary remake of Escape From New York, but I'm here today with some good news about it...Brett Ratner ain't making it no more.

Yes you heard me right. Did the captain of the good ship egomania finally surf the internet for five minutes and find that no one but his mother thinks he's as great as he does? It's not that he's awful or anything; he's not. He's just not really anything to write home about, you know what I mean? Having pushed out such just "meh" fare as Red Dragon and the first two Rush Hour movies doesn't put your name on the auteur role call list. Let's not forget that he's responsible for destroying the sanctity of the X-men trilogy with the lackluster third film and it got personal for me with the torturous Rush Hour III. Face it: he's not doing anybody any favors by continuing to work on big name licenses.

Here's my suggestion Brett...go back to tv. You stand up pretty darn well amongst a lot of that crowd and you have a lot of fan boy hatred to soothe. Why not get yourself a pack of continuity geeks, go to Tim Kring for a job and find a way to make Heroes work again? You could win an awful lot of geek good will that way and FSM knows you need it and Heroes needs it. After a season or two of some sensible decision making on that show, we'd welcome you back to the cinema with open arms.

a sigh of relief, but still itchy discomfort about the remake.
