Quarantine vs REC
Quarantine is to be released on October 17th, 2008.
The film is based off a Spanish film titled "Rec." as in Record.
The genre is horror and its a zombie flick but it has a "twist" that twist being it filmed using a now popular style of camera work called "shaky cam first person" or just "shaky cam".
You have seen this style in films such as: Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield.
Now, I hate re-makes. With a passion.
Especially horror re-makes because I feel that horror in cinema has been quite lackluster in the last 10 years so what do we do?
We take "classics" and "revamp" them and distribute. Hooray!...
Now, I've only seen this work...once and only once in this genre: Dawn of the Dead.
But sadly, once again...I feel that we have another sad excuse of a remake on our hands.
*sigh*
So, I encourage you to get your hands on "Rec." and watch this amazing piece of cinema that truly broke the mold and did something different before you watch Quarantine.
People are going to go out and see Quarantine and think that its a milestone in the horror genre but sorry, the Spanish were there and they did that and did it well.
Also, thanks Korey and Carlyle for informing me about this film. Its definitely one of my favorite films and not only for its genre.
