Just read what I can only hope to be false info regarding the inclusion of Zod in Singer's sequel to the under-whelming Superman Returns. I don't know the average age of the spill.com reader, but to those of us "of a certain age" who grew up watching Donner's Superman, the new flick was about one angstrom away from being a direct remake (or reimagining, or reinterpretation or whatever creative name you come up with for an uncreative project). A Lex real-estate scam hinging on the deaths of millions (BILLIONS!! in the remake...guess that's whats new...), with the young Superman sequence replaced with returning Superman sequence.
Fine, whatever, I loved the originals so much it was still a pleasure to watch, and it would be difficult to deny it being a beautifully-shot film. BUT if the sequel turns out to be a retread of Superman II, Singer can kiss my moolah goodbye, I'll wait for HBO. Bad enough Spacey is returning to camp it up (if you had told me in 2001 that Michael Rosenbaum would inhabit the character of Lex Luthor so much more completely than oscar winner Spacey, I would have laughed and called you a kryptonite monster of the week), but bringing in Zod instead of Brainiac, Metallo, Doomsday, or even Darkseid is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Somebody please give this shaky franchise to somebody who wants to make a movie, not an updated version of an old flick.
