Nobody I knew was as excited as me about the confirmation of
Guillermo del Toro to direct
The Hobbit and what ever the frak they're going to call the sequel.
Hobbit 2: Bilbo's Revenge or
Hobbit 2: Damn Dirty Dwarves or
Hobbit 2: Electric Boogaloo or
Hobbit 2: Everything From Here on Out is Gonna be Cake or maybe just
Hobbits. Regardless, this time it's personal. Or so I thought.

Here I pictured Guillermo, with his perfectly executed mythology film
Pan's Labyrinth, would be the
go-to guy for sure to take up these creative reins. I may have been overconfident. Apparently, not only has
Guillermo del Toro not ever even finished reading the original trilogy, but he wasn't a fan of it to begin with.
Salon.com brought us the scoop from the past. He told them in an interview at Cannes in 2006 that Hobbits ain't his thing:
"I was never into heroic fantasy. At all. I don't like little guys and dragons, hairy feet, hobbits -- I've never been into that at all. I don't like sword and sorcery, I hate all that stuff."
Oops. What now? My excitement for this project has suddenly considerably lessened. I am absolutely 100% against Guillermo directing this if he's only doing it for the money and prestige. If his heart's not in it, let him go make something he actually WANTS to make like
At The Mountains of Madness or
Doctor Strange or one of the hundreds of other projects he's flirted with in the past year or so.
To make a project like this even comparable to the original
Lord of the Rings trilogy, they've got to be helmed by someone who loves them completely. Someone who's proven his vision already. Somebody like...
Peter Jackson.

Seriously, WTF? He can't do it because he's busy with other stuff? What, like producing a
Halo movie and frelling
Tintin?
Tintin?
Seriously, who gives a flying frak about frelling
Tintin besides
Peter Jackson,
Steven Spielberg and probably
Harry Knowles...No offense guys, I'm sure
Tintin is great and totally fab and all that...but over
The Hobbit film? Time for this French character to surrender (something I hear they're good at) to something a little more anticipated.
