Now that we're already 1/4 into 2008 and the Oscars are over it seemed to me that MY picks for the
Best of 2007 were quite irrelevant.
...BUT I'll be damned if I don't get a request for it everyday! So, I guess I have to defer to
'the mighty O'Jays' who sang, "You gotta give people what they want." Without further ado (and for anybody who still cares) here's my personal picks for the best movies of 2007:

#10. THERE WILL BE BLOOD
Honestly, I think this movie is a bit overrated, but everything that's good about it is GREAT. At least enough to make my Top 10

#9. PERSEPOLIS
Not to knock Pixar but what they’ve done to animation may not have been for the best.
Ratatouille,
Shrek III and
Surf’s Up (my favorite of the three) are all pretty much following the same line. PERSEPOLIS is the first original animated movie I’ve seen in at least a decade. It reminds you of how far and deep the medium can be pushed as an art form.

#8. THE LIVES OF OTHERS
Some controversy as whether this was a 2007 or 2006 film. Either way, as much as I liked The Kite Runner and La Vie En Rose, this was the best foreign film I saw in either year.

#7. INTO THE WILD
See America through the eyes of a young douchebag. Never imagined I’d end up crying for a character I hated through 90% of the movie.

#6. THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD
Even with the slooooow pace, it’s a true western in every sense.
God, I miss ‘Deadwood’!

#5. BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD
Just when I thought movie were getting too nice along come this one with a squirm-factor of 11. Same feeling I got from ‘Happiness’ and Requiem For A Dream. Plus, Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s best performance EVER!

#4. 3:10 TO YUMA
Easily the most enjoyable movie of 2007 on every level. Perfectly crafted.

#3. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN
No money-shot for old men, more like it. Hands down THE best movie with the WORST ending…or lack thereof.

#2. GONE BABY GONE
Besides being a shocker that something so brilliant came from the Affleck brothers, this movie had the BEST ending!

#1. CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR
Sharp! Intelligent! Witty! Face paced! Well-acted! Historical! This gave me everything I ever want from a movie. And in a year full of 'There Will Be No County For Southland Tales By the Coward Robert Ford of the Caribbean' and other overly long movies that didn't know when to end, 'Charlie Wilson's War' found a good ending point at 90 minutes and TOOK IT! If I were forced to have any complaint it's that I wanted an hour more.
These were all the movies I thought were the
best.
...Still, there was another movie I might say was my
favorite. One that, despite it's flaws I found immensely entertaining. Even touching at times...
I mean, in as much as after seeing at a kickass premier for free and with my crazy schedule that doesn't allow me to go to any movies outside of our normal rotation, I paid to go see this one again...
Twice.

Deal with it.
