So who else is ready for the Oscars Tonight?
I think the biggest jolt is to see how the actors will be acting post writers strike.... (after all, its the actors and directors turn now)
And to see what Jon Stewart and his army of writers were able to come up with in 2 weeks from end of strike to awards show.
Of course if anyone really believes that the writers were not writing during the strike, I have a bridge to sell ya!
Let's be honest, it was there lifeblood... put yourselves in their shoes...
You are being told not to write for pay during that timeframe, however, the chance to build up a bank of ideas and scripts had to have been on some of there minds.
The next few months will be excruciating while some of these ideas are shopped or tested to find out what works or not.
And yes, this topic will bring up the fact that Michael Bay announces he wrote the script for the Transformers sequel duing the strike.
People call him an asshole for doing it, and talking about his lack of respect to the unions...
Seriously?
The fact that he was honest with the fact that he was busy while the producers and union heads are whining and bitching like two groups of pre school children fighting over the last juicebox.
Am I saying that the strike was pointless and unions are obsolete?
Hell no...
once, years ago, I was a member of the Grocery Workers Union in Tulsa while I was a bagboy at a Homeland in my teen years and then a member of the Food Handlers Union while working at Eskimo Joes during my college life.
The union helped my pay scale as well as the safety I had if I needed the help should "issues" arise (which they didn't)
To have a group of people in your corner fighting for our rights, that is awesome, but sometimes the line of communication can be blurred between the group and what the people are honestly looking for.
I don't doubt that the writers wanted some compensation for things that the producers and networks were banking on with webcasting and DVD sales... I would be wanting the same thing if I could write as a career.
But instead, I am stuck with unfinished thoughts in my head that I want to turn into written ideas, unfortunately, I just sit here and watch the world unfold.
Bring on the Oscars!!!
