One of the best comedies of all time and the best comedy made in years! That’s all you really need to know, just go see it!
The film stars Jonah Hill as Schmidt and Channing Tatum as Jenko; two cops who have to undercover as high school students to bust a drug crime spreading around. This new drug known as H.F.S (which I can’t say what it means because they’re words I can’t write in the paper) and a student from the school has died from tacking it, so Schmidt and Jenko need to find out who the dealer and people who make the drugs are. I’m not going to spoil any moments, jokes or plot points of the film because it is much funnier seeing it rather than reading about it.
Jonah Hill and a few other people, who I don’t know, wrote the script in the most genius way they can. The original “21 Jump Street” T.V show, which launched Johnny Depp’s career, took the premise very seriously and the writers realized that remaking the T.V show the way that it was, is a terrible idea. So what they did was take the basic premise of the show and turn on its head, making it a genius comedy. And they are so self aware that it is a remake of a T.V show, which many people have forgotten, that there are a few hilarious jokes addressing this issue.
The show starts of on high note and continues on the same high the rest of the way through. What’s most surprising in the film is that Channing Tatum is the funniest actor out of everyone. I never hated him in his other movie but I never thought that he would make an incredible comedic actor, the script fits his acting style and he fits the script perfectly. Ice Cube is also in the movie playing the captain of the Jump Street division and he has some really great lines in the film. Of course Jonah Hill is funny in the movie, but we all know that he is a funny actor; however, the movie show’s that he also really good a physical comedy, giving him some great moments. But Channing Tatum is still the most interesting character; he has the biggest story arch and largest character development and he is most importantly the funniest actor in the film.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the movie, all the jokes are hilarious, none of the jokes fall flat and the story if hysterical because it makes fun of the T.V show as well as represents an over exaggerated high school life that neither Schmidt or Jenko are used to at first. Just go see the movie.
