The coming of the new year brings with it the strange, garish tradition that we call The Academy Awards. It's that time of year when celebrities wander out of their palatial caves for a giant pageant wherein they pretend they don't want the gold statues for which they are competing with their colleagues. I'm just being ornery of course, the Oscars are a grand institution within Hollywood and many, many people look forward each year to not only the awards themselves, but also to the announcement of the nominations. Today, that announcement has been made. So without further ado, here are some of the artists nominated this year....

For a complete list of categories and nominees, feel free to hop over to the official Academy Awards website. The two big snubs this year appear to be 'Moonrise Kingdom' and 'The Master.' True, 'The Master' did get nods in performance categories, but Paul Thomas Anderson was not nominated for Best Director and it appears the Academy thought it better to leave a Best Picture slot empty rather than nominate either 'Master' or 'Moonrise.' And yet honestly, the biggest oversight for both of those films, in my humble opinion, is in the cinematography category. I wasn't over the moon for either film, but the one thing that was impossible to ignore was how immaculately each was shot. Well, it's that time again. Bring on the discussion, the debate, the screaming, and the running. Sorry, went a little Goldblum there.

The 85th Annual Academy Awards will be broadcast February 24th on ABC starting at 7pm Eastern. Also, don't forget to tune into Spill on that night for our live Oscar stream.

im glad dicaprio and foxx got snubbed from the Oscars.

First: DiCaprio just plays DiCaprio saying the word "nigger" with a Southern accent

Second: Foxx does absolutely NOTHING throughout the movie. and this is why you never saw Eastwood getting any Oscar noms for his Man With No Name roles...

I'm surprised people were so hard up for these two besting Christopher Walz' performance when we all know he's the shit...

The Master and Moonrise got shafted this year. Damn. And they put in Les Mis and Silver Linings instead. They didn't even get some cinematography noms to make it a bit better.

How did Pirates! Band of misfits get a nomination over Rise of the Guardians?! And Frankenweenie! Really?

Ben Afflack got robbed once again... Wait he already has an Oscar.. Nvm.  I'm confused as to why Waltz got nominated I thought his performance was kind of just... There I guess. You could say he was phoning it in and it was a very laid back performance.  Leo's performance literally chewed up the scenery.

meh

i think the dark knight rises shoudlve been nominated for at least sound editing and score. that bane voice  0_o just the presence of it and the bass it has. sounded great

and come one, the score of the dark knight rises was amazing. gothams reckoning score, the chant, rise...better than skyfall. like honestly, skyfall?

Say what you will about Tarantino and Affleck, but I feel they were robbed on a Best Director Oscar!! Man, that's rough. I was hoping to see these two on that list. Both films were amazing!! Bummer! And Nolan or the TDKR team didn't get a single nomination!! Wow!! Dicapiro should have got the nominate for Supporting Actor. Bullsh*t!!

You know what I dont even care anymore. Because my high expectations from the Academy always seem to fail every year. Yeah Affleck got snubbed, yeah Dicaprio got snubbed but who cares now.

Dark knight rises should have gotten a nod for the soundtrack at least...Ben affleck you got screwed again...Hope Hugh Jackman wins but pretty sure DDL will win..ARGO is gonna win best picture...99% sure...
