Crazy. This is all I have to say about 2012. Crazy Awesome!!! I will say this and mean it this time, 2012 is better than Transformers 2. Their I said it. Are you happy that I said that? Well, not only is this a lot better that Transformers 2 (which I loved), but it's writer/director Roland Emmerich's best film, but that's not saying too much. I mean, I respect Mr. Emmerich and admire him, but the only other film beside this that I really like is The Day After Tomorrow. Independence Day and 10,000 B.C really sucked balls. But this is my opion, is 2012 really that special or do I smell Razzie?
The plot of 2012 is pure and simple. There was an old theory that the mya's in Mexico believed that the world would end in 2012. The Government knew that this was going to happen but they did not tell the world because they were scared that the public would go crazy. Their is also a subplot where Jon Cusack plays Jackson Curtis, and failed sci fi writer who is divorced from Amanda Peet's character. And Amanda Peet has a really jerk boyfriend who Jackson's kids have a better relation with him. There is also another subplot with the President who is played by Danny Glover and he has a really annoying but hot daughter played Thandie Newton. Then there's ANOTHER subplot that involves the scientist who predicted that the myan's where right.
But of course who cares about the subplots, how are the special effects? Well, they are in my top 5 of the most impressive special effects of all time. I mean, Roland Emmerich never puts any effort what so ever into the story in any of his films (besides The Patriot), but this time, the visuals are so realistic that I kind of felt like LA was actually falling into the pitts. But let's start to complain about the film.
First of all, I am so tired of this god dang product placement in these movies. This is a Colombia Pictures film and Sony owns Colombia. And so Sony thinks that they can put the VAIOS in these movies. I mean, every single labtop in this movie, is a Sony VAIO. Also there are always the characters that are really bad sterotypes in all of Emmerich's films. Like their is this big time Russian guy who Jackson has to drive around because Jackson is a part time limo driver. And for some reason their is a dog that walks on a type rope and a lot of people where bothered with that but I really was'nt.
In all, I really think you will like this movie and it's a must see. I had a bunch of parts where you know they are going to make it out of the situation but your still like "dude, are they going to make it"? And they do. Roland Emmerich, I now bow down to you.
