Some have said that 2010 has been a bad year for movies. I debunk that statement by saying 2010 was a great year for movies. Sure there have been some examples of great films that are engaging, and are fun for the audience, and there have been examples of what not to do in a  movie, but every year is like that. Every year is different, this year seemed to be the tech/thinking year. We had films that were about the new age of technology, and that made you think, l and not just dumb it down for you. If anything 2009 was a worse year especially from January to June, but I digress. 2010 was a great year, and I'm here to review the best of the best of 2010.

Best Trailer of 2010:

A trailer is something that shows, and sell s the movie to people. Some films have a great trailer,  but the film can be disappointing, and in some cases a bad trailer b ut great film. We had some awesome t railers this year, and some that told us nothing about the movie, and some t hat got your attention from the start.

  I know it's been praised enough, but the highly dramatic trailer to "The Social Network" got me to go from "A movie about Facebook really!?" to "A movie about Facebook gotta news feed this yay!". It was a trailer for the ages, and by that I mean it showed our times we live in. The music selection "Creep" by, Scala was a perfect choice of music for this film. The lyrics work perfectly with the images of Facebook profiles, and all leading up to a blurry picture of the creator of it all Mark Zuckerberg played. It runs chills down your spine as you watch the clips from the film, and the music playing in the background. The other trailer too are great. the one with the Facebook postings and the characters' dialogue being spoken as their status's are being updated was genius. A great trailer to a great movie.

Best Ensemble Cast:

I'm not talking about one specific performance, but the film as a whole that's what the Oscars for for, but an ensemble cast is what keeps a film on line, that gets you to like the characters and invest your two and a half hours into those characters in the film. With this year being the year full of Oscar films, and buzz surrounding specific actors, and actresses this is a hard choice to pick from.

    Once again not a huge surprise, but in all seriousness "Inception" had a great casting director on their hands because some of the greatest performances of this year came from this movie. We all know the one who stole the show was Joesph Gordon-Levitt, and the rest were great too. Leonardo DiCaprio gave as good as a performance as he did in "Shutter Island" another movie with the subject matter of alternate realities, but this is one of the great casts of 2010, a film were they all brought their A-game.

Best Director:

A director is the driving force of any film. He is the camera man, he is the one giving the orders to the actors, and production crew on how to make his film he's the boss in charge. Filmmaking requires imagination, and creativity. We have some great directors every year who put out great work, and then we have directors who considerately  put out great work. In 2010 we had directors who consistently  put out great work year after year.

  This is very predictable considering the consensus agrees with me when I say Christopher Nolan deserves every right to be named the best director this year, because of his imaginative state of mind that doesn't require big CG effects. His ideas are fresh, and make you think while still being entertained by his work. He's a passionate filmmaker that knows what he's doing and doesn't bullshit around with crappy dialogue, and story. All of his 7 films have been praised, and some have broken box office records, but he's never won or been nominated for an Oscar or Academy Award, for "Inception" he deserves one full handily, and should win above everyone else. He knows film he understand the human mind and emotions which few directors can convey right, and he's one of the few talented filmmakers that can do so.

Honorable Mention:

I want to give a mention to Edgar Wright for making a film that was a pretty hard sell to begin with, and a hard film to make, and made it and it's one of the best comic book films of all time. It wasn't successful at all, but Edgar Wright took it, and accepted it, but he knew that what he made money maker or not was a great product, and if fans loved it he was happy. He made a comedy/action film that just so happened to be about nerd fantasies. Kudos to Edgar Wright.

Best Score/Soundtrack:

Sometimes a score makes a film what it is. Sometimes it can make a scene that isn't interesting suddenly interesting with a great score, that sets the mood for the rest of the film, and how you interpret the film as an individual. I for one have over twenty movie soundtracks downloaded onto my iPod Touch, but it's worth it to hear great music for great films.

Tie Between: "The Social Network" & "Tron: Legacy"

  For both of these films I have to draw a tie, because they have the case were the soundtrack made the film. "The Social Network" was a great film on it's own, but with this soundtrack it turned into a almost perfect film. Daft Punk took "Tron: Legacy" which would have been a C film if it weren't for this soundtrack that brought it up to a B. The better score is of course "The Social Network", by Trent Reznor that takes ousds, and techno and mixes them all into great music with piano, and dreery sound effects, like the track above "Intriguing Possibilites" takes classic paino, and rock and mixes both together. Daft Punk has never done a film score up until now, and I think they deserve something for that. They did great, and didn't just make it one big music video it used orchestra in some tracks. Best Visuals Effects:

CGI is overused, it is, but there are some films that need CG in order to....make the film. Last year a little movie called "Avatar" changed 3D, and CGI. There are films that are smart films that don't use the CG to a point were the whole movie is CG. I want to say though in the case of "Tron: Legacy" it's nominated for the style and taking a world from 1982 and how that looked like to a brand new world that looked awesome. This year there were many smart films that use great CG.

   "Scott Pilgrim" is the most stylish film of the year I'm giving it that title, and the visuals style did it for me. I know that "Inception" has great effects, and most are practical and that's wonderful, but more so than "Inception", "Scott Pilgrim" had new effects from classic video games from the 80's and put them to film, and was done perfectly. The film wouldn't have been as fun as it was. It was nostalgic to some most likely, and the music also put a lot to that with the 8-bit video game "Street Fighter" type music. The visual style of "Scott Pilgrim vs The World" was just fun, and when it comes down to it you just got to have fun. 

Best Screenplay:

Without a great screenplay there can't be a great story, characters, or script. Every year we get all the Oscar try hards and the thing that some people look at is the screenplay of those films and the ones that win are the ones with the magnificent  screeplays. We had some great, and magnificent screenplays this yea.

  I can't pass this up, "The Social Network" has the best screenplay, and script of 2010. Aaron Sorkin is a master of his craft. The snappy back and forth dialogue makes the film what it is. The real Mark Zuckerberg in some ways emulates what we see in the film apart from to greed it portrays. The reality is that "The Social Network" is one of those films that come along in a great while that shows our times we live in. Every character you feel bad for in some way, because of the script that every character is given to speak from, they make you feel bad for them by their acting of the screenplay that Aaron Sorkin wrote for a film that is a testimony to our recent times.

This is the point in which I want to say i tried to give every movie I saw this year that I truly loved a chance to shine by getting nominated my views may not be the same view you have on any of these films. My views do not mean you have to agree with me. My point to this is to express my opinion on a subject matter that consists of many other opinions.

Best Film of 2010:

2010 was a year of great, and bad. We had some crazy things happen in our world, and country, and some forms of entertainment took advantage of that, and made something out of it, and the best film of 2010 takes something we all know about, and made into something that will be remembered for years as long as the source it came from still exits in every one's minds.

"The Social Network"

"The Social Network" is a film that is telling the future of our society, and no pun intended social network between people we know, and our world. The real version of this story has been one that is considered to be legendary by some to be one of the most entertaining stories of becoming a billionaire over night. The book that this film is based off of is called "The Accidental Billionaires", and it tells what the the book, and film is about two people (Mark Zuckerberg & Eduardo Saverin) making something that can change the basis of social life in people. Along the way many others try to come in (Sean Parker & Winklevos twins)

The great script from Aaron Sorkin, the magnificent score by,l Trent Reznor, the perfect acting chops from the cast, and the direction from David Fincher makes this film what it is. I would not be surprised at all if this film sweeps the award shows, along with 'Inception", and "Black Swan", but "The Social Network" is a film for our time. Like Sean Parker says "This is our time" everything about this film is the forefront of 2010. Facebook hit it's 500 millionth user, and as the tagline says "You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies"

Note: Some films I didn't see, so I couldn't nominate or mention them. I know that "The Town" is a film that people are mentioning, but i only saw about 45 minutes of the film and can't judge, and nominate it with only seeing 45 minutes.
