I'm very happy to report that Emily Hagins, local Austin filmmaking wunderkind, has just had her film 'My Sucky Teen Romance' picked up for theatrical distribution. The comedy about a group of kids dealing with first love, awkwardness, and actual vampires at their beloved sci-fi convention played to rave reviews at SxSW. MPI Media Group has acquired all North American rights to the film and is planning a theatrical run for the spring of 2012. 'My Sucky Teen Romance' marks Hagins' third feature film as she completed her first film 'Pathogen' at age 12. Age 12!
As an Austin website, as movie geeks, and as champions of independent film, we could not be more excited about this announcement. Having personally seen 'My Sucky Teen Romance' at SxSW, I can attest to the film's stellar quality which more than slightly belies the age of its young director. The film lampoons the cutesy romanticism of 'Twilight' and proves that not all adolescent girls pine for vampires that sparkle in the sunlight. Emily is destined for greatness and this feels like the first step in that direction. Way to go Emily!

Comment by The Dubya on October 20, 2011 at 11:53pm Well it's a good thing people here like it...because the Youtube crowd are being major haters in the comments....
Then again, Youtube is a breeding ground for mouth-breathing idiots, so it's not like they mean much anyways.

Comment by Christian Bergman Jr. on October 20, 2011 at 8:17pm This looks great! I own a copy Pathogen and she was nice enough to send me a hand written note thanking me for purchasing it! Though I'm not a zombie lover I was impressed by her work at 12. She is turning out to be a director to be watching! Can't wait to see this one too!
