Keanu Reeves Gets 'Cowboy Bebop'

The Hollywood Reporter says that 20th Century Fox is bringing the Japanese anime TV series 'Cowboy Bebop' to the big screen, with Keanu Reeves said to star as the bounty hunter traveling through space in 2071.
One of the big titles in anime, "Bebop" is set in a time where "astral gates" make interstellar travel possible. Humanity, decimated by a lunar explosion resulting from a gate accident, spread out across the solar system, as did crime, which gave rise to the use of bounty hunters.
Reeves would play Spike Spiegel, a bounty hunter and former member of a crime syndicate. Spiegel, along with Jet Black, a fellow bounty hunter and former cop, are the two pilots of the spaceship Bebop.

Fox hasn't exactly had a great track record, Hollywood seems to treat stuff anime as well as video game properties, and I don't know about having Keanu as Spike. Who knows? Maybe he can surprise the hell out of us and make a great Spike, and maybe the movie will be good, but while I'm not betting on it, I won't condemn it unless I see for myself that it sucks.

And anyone who thinks dragonballz was good anime is fucking nuts! There is NO critical thinking in it. Nothing to reflect on. Just pointless violence. How could "hollywood" do that right?

- I agree with a lot of the righteous indignation everyone is voicing about this casting choice but on the plus-side keanu could do a good job with the cinematic marital arts that spike will no doubt be laying down on some bad-guys. Wait till the real kick in the teeth comes when they annouce that they're going to do a RnB version of the theme tune or something!

He might look a bit like him, but their personalities just don't blend. That is if you can say Keanu has a personality at all. This series can work as a movie, but I trust Fox with it as much as I trust a hooker with sideburns to be of the female sex.

Bebop is my favourite anime so this is quite a dissapointment to hear. I thought I never had to worry about this show getting this kind of treatment because it was so old and out of the public eye already. Oh well.
