ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO

As many who know me well enough know... I'm a HUGE fan of Kevin Smith. Clerks changed my life. While I knew I wanted to be involved in film, Clerks made me want to direct...and here I am now. I'm in Pittsburgh, majoring in film production, with a number of short projects on me resume.

Anyway, now Smith is back in the 'burgh (he shot Dogma here way back) to shoot his latest comedy: Zack and Miri Make A Porno. If you ask me: it's fucking exciting. For those who don't know, it's his second non-Askewniverse film (after Jersey Girl in 2004) and is a comedy about two best friends who start a porn company to get out of debt. It stars Seth Rogan of Knocked Up and Superbad and Elizabeth Banks of The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Also set to act in the film are Jason Mewes (aka "Jay"), Jeff Anderson (Randal of Clerks), Jim Norton, ex-porn star Traci Lords, Craig Robinson, Ricky Mabe and Katie Morgan. Plus Tyler Labine, from the CW show Reaper (which Smith directed the pilot for).

So today I contacted the Mosser Casting company in Pittsburgh to become an extra. I talked to two of their people, filled out an application, and had them look me over. They said to call them next week, because this week they don't currently need any males 18-20ish. So hopefully it all pans out, and if it does you'll sure get a report (without spoilers of course, assuming I get any major details). Even if it doesn't, for me its fucking exciting to have a Smith movie filmed in my area. I can watch the film and say "hey, I've been there before!" I heard he's shooting parts of it in the Monroeville area. I go to movies there on occasion in Squirrel Hill (which is like not far at all from Monroeville...10-minute drive on a good day I think).
This isn't the first movie to be filmed in Pittsburgh since I moved here. The director of Superbad, Greg Mottola, filmed his new movie here around the time I moved here. And some thriller called Homecoming is I guess currently being filmed. But still, this is the one I'm actually thrilled about. I would do anything to even be an extra in this film. Even if it means skipping a class, Hell, I can catch up. I usually have one class a day and its in the morning, except Wednesdays. Anyway, wish me luck getting a gig as an extra. Won't be totally major, being an extra, but even at that I'm sure it would be an unforgettable experience. Also being a filmmaker writing a feature film to shoot in summer 2009, my co-producers Aaron and Bobby and I could meet actors for future use (the two also plan to try to get in on it). And like I said, if not: it's exciting enough to have Smith making a movie here.
