Giovanni Ribisi & Liam Neeson Join Seth MacFarlane's Next Film

Seth MacFarlane is saddling up for his next live-action feature comedy, 'A Million Ways to Die in the West.' The 'Family Guy' creator will both direct and star in this whacky western about a sheep farmer who chickens out during a duel and is dumped by his girlfriend. He then enlists the aid of a gunslinger's wife to help him win back his departed love. So far, the cast boats two beauties in Amanda Seyfried and Charlize Theron, and now another couplet of names has been added to the list. Giovanni Ribisi, who also appeared in 'Ted,' has signed on to play the best friend of MacFarlane's character; one who is trying to get him back in the dating scene. On top of that, cinema's premier intimidating frontman Liam Neeson has also climbed aboard. Neeson will play Theron's outlaw, gunslinging husband. As with 'Ted,' MacFarlane will cowrite the script for 'A Million Ways to Die in the West' with Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. No release date has yet been set.

This is an interesting one-two casting punch for MacFarlane. Giovanni Ribisi, though probably more associated with dramas and a smattering of action films, has done plenty of comedy work both in movies and on TV. Not to mention the fact that his character in 'Ted' had me absolutely rolling on the floor. He was this weird, sexually-confused criminal trapped in his love for the 80s. Ribisi threw himself into the role and it's clear that he works well with MacFarlane. As to Neeson, as much as I love the guy, he's not what I would call a funnyman. His movies tend to be either pensive dramas or brutal action romps. In fact, the funniest thing Neeson has ever done, in my opinion, was his appearance on Ricky Gervais/Warwick Davis' BBC series 'Life's Too Short.' He played himself in a sketch in which he proved to be terrible at improv comedy. It was a sendup of himself and his career, and hopefully some of that same self-effacing humor will define his character in 'A Million Ways to Die in the West.' This is shaping up to be quite the cast, it's amazing to me how a guy like MacFarlane, who has made a career out of skewering celebrities is able to get so many high-profile actors to appear in his films.

What do you guys think? Excited that Neeson and Ribisi are coming aboard? Did you like 'Ted?' Are you enthusiastic toward more MacFarlane feature comedies?

Liam Neeson is an incredible improv comedian.  Just check out the episode of "Life's Too Short", he really shows his chops.

Liam Neeson is awesome. I'd like to see him do something silly like this. He's always really dry and funny in interviews.

Well I liked Ted well enough, and the prospect of seeing Liam Neeson in a comedy is...very intriguing.

Color me interested.

I guess it was a matter of time. McFarlane always 'acts' in his own stuff and he can't always be the voice of an talking animal or other surrealistic character. If it doesn't work out then he can always flee back behind the camera.

So I guess he really wasn't kidding when he said that he wanted to do comedy.

Hey, I'm on board. For all we know, Neeson will just play the straight man badass and MacFarlane will provide the comedy.

I'm with Mr. McCoy.  I'm excited for this.

Bet Neeson dies in the first 10 mins.

I'll never get tired of watching that Life's Too Short clip with Neeson.

I am enthusiastically looking forward to this.  Ted was hilarious and I am sure this will be as well.  I have faith in both Seth MacFarlane and the cast that has signed on.  I'm sure this will be a hit to look out for.
