Ant-Man Update From Edgar Wright
Marvel's Phase 2 is positively bursting with potential. This anticipation-engendering potential does not solely pertain to the next round of standalone adventures of the individual members of The Avengers, but in the bold new cinematic adaptations as well. For example, 'Guardians of the Galaxy' has been in the news a lot lately, most recently due to its finally casting its Star-Lord; props to Chris Pratt. But what of Ant-Man? The first big screen version of Marvel's tiniest hero was announced to be directed by Edgar Wright some time ago. Since then, barely a peep has been heard, leading some to postulate that the film had been cancelled or that Wright was proven wrong for the project. Today, we have confirmation from Wright himself that 'Ant-Man' is not dead in the water...
"I’ve been collaborating with Kevin [Feige] during the whole of that cycle. I think people have always assumed… ‘Oh why is it taking so long to make?’ Part of it is because I wanted to make two other movies first. I wanted to make 'World’s End'… me and Simon were very keen to make it and it felt like it was unfinished business and we wanted to wrap up the trilogy. The script came together really fast. Well not really fast, but it came together at a certain point where it was like ‘I really want to do this next.’ But to be honest, the later I do it, it feels like I could learn more, especially about special effects. It’s a big effects movie, so I’m pleased to go into it having done 'Scott Pilgrim' and 'The World’s End' because you’re always learning more about that side."
Wright even went so far as to clue us in, at least in some small fashion, as to what we can expect from the construct of the Ant-Man movie...
"It’s a way of doing a superhero film within another genre. I wanted to tell an origin tale in a slightly different way. It’s part of the Marvel cinematic universe, but it also feels like its own piece."
There's a strange sort of doubled-edged sword that goes along with a highly-anticipated comic book movie. When we hear about something as categorically awesome as Edgar Wright directing 'Ant-Man,' our mouths water and we expect it as soon as possible. At the same time, the worst thing Wright could do would be to rush through the film in order to get it released quickly. This is a character who is ostensibly being introduced to mainstream audiences for the first time, and one who will not be a easy sell. I for one am glad to hear that Wright is taking his time and striving to get it right. Plus, in the meantime, who isn't alright with him finishing the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy (alias Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy) with 'The World's End?' I never doubted that this was still happening, but it is nice to hear Wright reaffirm his commitment. Not only that, but I'm also very interested to hear that Wright wants to innovate the superhero origin story by framing it within another genre.
What do you guys think? Were you worried 'Ant-Man' was squashed? What other genre might Wright be working within in order to bring us 'Ant-Man?'

Seems like have do not have a solid script yet...I am sure he has an outline of what he wants to do...but it has to be able to make sense when Antman comes into the fold with the Avengers.

Well Tony Stark was based off Howard Hughes...so I would hope more people know him. I have less faith in non-fan boys knowing who Donald Blake is.
Scott Lang was a Stark Enterprises employee before becoming the next Ant man. Logical choice but Pym is more familiar for being a wife beater as Yellow Jacket.

As for this article, I didn't care once I heard O'Grady wasn't ant-man as Edgar wright would make a great O'Grady film. I don't think he's right for a Pym or Lang film. As long as he doesn't do what Ant-man Season 1 did to Ant-man:(Which was stupid)
Giving Hank daddy issues, making Janet an off handed one sentence mention and turning bill foster into a black side kid. Not to mention the push of half the ant-man talk onto Hank's dead (first) wife.

Also Hank Pym ant-man has Never had a solo title, also he's got a huge ground swell fan community earth's mightest heroes
Also go back to pre Ironman 1, remember how much Tony was known outside the fan boy circles.

Why is this a "highly anticipated movie" when this character is neither known outside the fan boy world and hasn't had it's own title for quite sometime? Never thought of ant man as a Iron Man or Superman. Can't say I'm that eager but am just a little curious to see what Edger can do.
