January Jones May Not Return For 'Days Of Future Past'

So far the production of 'X-Men: Days of the Future Past' has been marked by returns. Bryan Singer is returning to the franchise to direct for the first time since 2003's 'X2.' Also, we know that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are coming back to play the future versions of Professor X and Magneto. Not only that, but Hugh Jackman will purportedly also be reprising his role as Wolverine in the upcoming sequel to 'X-Men: First Class.' Today's news on the other hand involves someone who might not be returning for 'Days of Future Past.' While at the Sundance Film Festival, January Jones, who played Emma Frost in Matthew Vaughn's 'X-Men: First Class,' was asked whether we would be seeing her again in 'Days of Future Past.' Her response cast quite a bit of doubt on that prospect...

"I don’t know that I’m in it, I don’t think Emma’s in this one.  Well they haven’t told me if I am (laughs).  I wouldn’t put it past them though, I got the script for the first one on the airplane on the way there.  It’s called Days of Future Past I think, and I think it’s more about James [McAvoy] and Michael [Fassbender] and then Patrick [Stewart] and Ian [McKellan], and I think it’s gonna go back and forth with those so I don’t think Emma’s in those bits.  I don’t know, I really don’t know.”

So at this point her absence from 'Days of Future Past' is only as certain as her return, which is to say not certain at all. Also, from Jones' quote, it would appear that just because she hasn't been contacted by the filmmakers yet is not a definitive clue that she won't be in the new movie. That being said, I really hope she won't be in the new movie. First of all, to the best of my knowledge, Emma Frost has nothing to do with this particular story arc. She could be shoehorned in with little effort, but it is not vitally important to the plot of the next film that she is there. The other item to consider here is January Jones' flat, wooden performance in 'First Class.' I have to say I'm thrilled at the possibility of her not returning as she was easily the worst part of the movie for me. I'm not saying January Jones is necessarily a bad actress, but given just how insufferable she made Emma Frost, I will not be shedding any tears if her name is not among the cast list for 'Days of Future Past.'

What do you guys think? Do you think we will see Emma Frost in 'Days of Future Past?' Would anyone be disappointed if January Jones doesn't return?

I call bullshit on that. Just like the way Marion Cotillard publicly came out and said she wasn't Talia Al Ghul in TDKR.

I haven't read "Days of Future Past" so I can only comment on the report but I don't hear anything here that says she's not in it anymore than she could be. I'd rather be positive minded and think/hope she likely will be. I liked her portrayal of the character and think she'd fit in with the expanded cast well.

the character will need to appear in future films, but not this one. in the background maybe. Just get a good actress with a brittish accent. It can't be that hard

Jan Jones is a decent actress in mad men, but in first class she was pretty much eye candy and not much else.

But shes hot, so why not have her in the film?

You say Emma Frost has nothing to do with the Days of Future Past arc, but to be fair, neither does she with First Class, either. It could have been anyone on Frost's role.

I wouldn't miss her.

Deuces.

@Dominic Cellini

It's that they just wrote the character like that so her acting would fit the character, I really don't think it was Matthew Weinner's original intent to go the way the character went, even though it has worked out brilliantly.
