If it's crap ... We'll tell you

Sabretooth posted a statusI remember hearing something, way back when, about how Sam Raimi had originally planned on having The Lizard be the villain in 2004's 'Spider-Man 2' along with Dr. Octopus. This of course explained why there was a reference to Dr. Connors in 'Spider-man,' and why Dylan Baker makes an appearance as that character in the sequel. Evidently someone was able to convince Raimi that maybe that approach was too narratively cumbersome...something they failed to tell him prior to 'Spider-Man 3.' If you're curious as to what Raimi's Lizard would have looked like, artist Constantine Sekeris has the answer. On his website, among many other astonishing works, is this concept art for Spidey's reptilian adversary. Whether you're looking at the sketch or the rendered drawing, Sekeris' Lizard is pretty terrifying, more so in my view than the one we got in 'The Amazing Spider-Man.' Take a look at the artwork below and let us know what you think. And be sure to check out all the other fantastic art on Sekeris' site.

Comment by Heath Ferris on January 5, 2013 at 9:03pm Ok the concept is neat, but there's no way that that could have worked looking that scary. The second it talked it would just not be as threatening. The tail looks way too long to work as counter balance for a bipedal creature, and the presence of nipples on a reptile raises too many questions. Both of the faces need at least another look to make them work because one looks too much like Voldemort and the other looks too much like some sort of dog.
Comment by Microshock on January 4, 2013 at 5:40pm This looks about the same as the finished product.
Comment by Robert Wild on January 4, 2013 at 3:30pm Not all the Spiderman films are for everyone. Some like the first trilogy, some just like the new film. And some people like both. I personally love ALL the Spiderman films. Can't people just leave that shit alone and like what they like, and not have these retarded ass arguements over which one is good or not?

@Gerald is the new spider-man more emo then that.
also your parents leaving you; then dieing and then your uncle dieing for something you didnt stop is a crazy good reason for Peter Parker to be sad and vengeful.
and i dont understand how being that stereotypical nerd make Raimi's films any better. I think Webb's perter Parker was way more on point with what nerd is really like. most of the nerds I know are nowhere near the way Raimi portieres them. Webb's Parker was someone who was a ok looking dude but was a skinny, smart guy who just didnt have the social skills to make him as popular as he could be. and he was some one who would stand up for some one that was being bullied. which is a good to show he had what it takes to even have the idea to become a superhero, unlike Raimis spider-man who never showed any heroic character aspects.
and he never disrespected aunt may. he did exactly what a teen who just lost alot would do and it gave him a reason to connect even more with his aunt and learned what being a hero meant. its what you call character development.
Also read your comics and watch your cartoons if he was no more of an ass to criminals then he was in the comics.
Last I would have no problem with a little bit of cheesy or goofiness in a spider-man film. my problem with Raimis films is that he would stop the film to do his goofy shit. to me it never really went with the films.

Comment by JoeDrifter on January 3, 2013 at 10:56am That first one is freaking ugly, yet so good. The other one looks okay.
Comment by taylor michael on January 3, 2013 at 10:39am the third movie while the weakest of the three wasnt as bad as its reputation ..but im not gonna defend it..i do understand why many do not like it.but the studio had alot of say and there were alot of disagreements between the two. if Raimi wasnt pressured into elements of the third.it would have been better off..as for TASM..it had potential what was the purpose of turning everyone if we never see them again? and another note..why change people saying he can save them if it doesnt last? and the whole property of peter parker on the camera is just silly..
Comment by Anthony Stokes on January 3, 2013 at 8:25am People do realize that the studio had a heavy hand in Spiderman 3 right? I'm sick of people blaming Raimi

Actually, Raimi was a huge Spiderman fan, but his love of Spiderman came from when he was a kid and he often said, he would read spiderman in the 70's through the 90's when the comic had a different feel and was a little cheesy and goofy at times but could also be dark at times. It was the fact that no matter what Peter Parker went through, he always endured and would continue to try and make the world a better place. Which is why I love the Raimi Spiderman films more than the Webb Spiderman, Raimi's is a closer version of the Spiderman from when I was a kid. I started reading Spiderman in the late 80's through late 90's, Even the cartoons from the 80's and 90's were a little cheesy in humor. But I also feel as times change, so does how people relate to Spiderman, The new Spiderman is more emo than a nerdy, but then again, nerds were different when I was a kid. I remember when the nerds at my school where considered to be some of the most unpopular kids in the school, Now, everyone loves them, Nerds now are thought about differently than nerds from the 80's. Plus Peter was kind of an ass in the Amazing Spiderman. I understand he's a teenage and also but he never disrespected Aunt May. He would taunt criminals but he never took it too far.
But I think it depends on when you were introduced to Spiderman. I remember the Todd McFarlane run where Spiderman became really dark and I remember how alot of my friends where turned off by it saying how it really wasn't Peter Parker. I think that if you were to retale the story of Spiderman in today's settings, then you would have the Amazing Spider which I liked, but it wasnt the Spiderman I grew up with.
Another example, I got into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1985 and was into the comic book about a year before the cartoon came out. When the cartoon came out, I was on one hand, happy for Eastman and Laird for thier sucess but on the other was pissed because it wasn't the turtles from the comic, And if you look at the version of the cartoon from the 80's until now, they are vastly different. and the only time they were close to the comic was when they brought all of the different version of the turtles together and included the comic book version (black and white) of the turtles. I know people who have recently got into the turtles and are shocked when they read the first comics. Hell I know people who love the turtle from the 80's and refuse to acknowledge the comic book.
