Comment by Hector Fernando Andrade JR. II on January 23, 2013 at 8:35pm @Brain: I wouldn't call the writing of Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days sloppy because Greg and his dad learned that a man who never made a mistake never made anything. The plot hole thing is true but movies had plot holes since 1895.
Comment by DarkSyndicate on January 1, 2013 at 4:53am Well one of my major passions aside from reading several books, learning more on zoology and enjoying shows such as 'Breaking Bad', animation is right up there with them and thus, I watch a lot of them; so I have a wide idea on many different kinds of animated movies and shows. 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic', seasons 1-2(I might see the upcoming 3rd) were actually just one of many animated series that I have observed and there really wasn't anything that was all that special about it.
"I don't agree precisely with every one of your points"
Pardon my request but, well, what do you mean? Can you be more specific? I am very much interested on what you meant by that in particular.
The characters in MLP are actually very generic and are generally cardboard cutouts. They have no real depth with their characterizations -unlike 'Adventure Time' which does- and are not very interesting either. Pretty much mediocre writing for them all.
MLP also talks down to viewers, especially by the end of just about every episode. I just can't stand shows that do this and it is also why 90's cartoons were renowned to be some of the worst of all time.
The endings are fumbled with the same general conclusion for every episode, "friendship", which is bland and very awkward. It is really just generally very bad writing; other than that, bland writing at best.
The comedy is very generic and dry. It is not clever with its comedy and tends to just pander around. At best, you might have a small chuckle every 1-4 episodes, unless your intellectual levels are not as high as expected with adults.
The animation is actually significantly cheaper than that of 'Phineas and Ferb', which is a show renown to look like as if it was made with a cheap computer animation software. All of the ponies look very generic to each other (really just with minor color differences), except for their embodiments of gods, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna which are also very generic and are not all that interesting. If anything, their strongest strength is their animation, yet it is nothing special, just colorful, but nothing more.
Their back story is just the typical and bland story based on Christianity's God versus Satan type stories. It is just a black and white image of good versus evil which in this show, probably couldn't be more generic and with nothing interesting about it. It was really just lazy writing.
It has a very ominous light to it. It is without question that it was written primarily for the underdeveloped minds of little 8 year old girls. It is very awkward to admitting like such a show as childish, girly and poorly written as MLP. It is also generally associated to people with low intellectual capabilities and those with asperger's syndrome. Also, a large percentage of the fans for MLP are actually sexually attracted to the underage characters; a sick combination of bestiality and pedophilia.
It is just a 30min show about ponies hugging and talking about friendship... Why waste your precious time watching such a show?
Can you please collaborate more on what you meant precisely? A show that is popular amongst '4-Chan' users -explicitly not the most mature of people- is not very impressive and does not mean that it is good. Most of them do not even appear to have ever seen any of the episodes, from either season, but rather only like it for 'memes'.
Hmm... Anyways...
They do not have to review everything in particular. 'Remote Viewing' is more about what they want to review, not necessarily what you want; especially for something so... Well... I think I had said more than enough, as it is.
"Flapjack's not that great. It has beautiful art but a lot of the episodes are really boring and underwhelming"
Although 'The Marvelous Adventures of Flapjack' was not a perfect show -as I never said it was-, is if anything, vastly underrated. Though yes, its animation was vastly superior over MLP, it was also basically like a darker, grittier version of 'Sponge Bob' but with a very different tone. Its slapstick was great and it also generally used a good amount of satire, irony and clever references. It is with little doubt certainty better written, cleverer, funnier than MLP, and not nearly as ominous as MLP.
"And while I like Adventure Time it has its moments of meh too."
Not even nearly as much as MLP. In fact, virtually all of their episodes -to say the very least- are actually very well written and just about all of them play an importance to the show, back story, character developments and theme of the show. They have very clever and well thought out ways of using different kinds of elements and have them work simultaneously in harmony. Also, the show gets even better as the seasons go on. Generally, just about all of their episode's endings are very unpredictable while being well though out. It also has very interesting and progressively developing characterizations. Their great usage of references and humor also gives it a major edge. The animation is also very good; significantly greater than that of MLP. There are also different reasons to watch it; back story, twists, cleverness, funny humor, great usage of satire, irony, inspiration, enlightenment(without being talked down to), and animation.
MLP does not have any of that, nor anything really to go against it. It is simply just another bland and overly generic series with no real special attributes. But if you are one of those guys who's argue is simply "because they are simply cute", then I honestly feel sorry for you. To waste 30min of your life's time for each episode of something that is so bare-bones, not clever, not witty, not very humorous, has nothing special, is very generic and is very bland, while also claiming that it is great, speaks volumes about you. It is really just a ~C show, to be honest.
'Adventure Time' was explicitly made for all ages. From the more mature and intelligently more advance kids, to teenagers and yes, actually for to well developed adult viewers of all genders(male, female or in between). 'My Little Pony: friendship is Magic' on the other hand was more into catering the minds of little, underdeveloped 8 year old girls and was just overrated for the sake of 'memes'. When it comes down to what is the greatest animated series for all ages, for now, that honor undoubtedly belongs to 'Adventure Time'. Second would probably have to be 'Regular Show', while third would be 'Gravity falls'.
Comment by Hector Fernando Andrade JR. II on December 31, 2012 at 12:03am I rented Premium Rush on DVD.
Premium Rush is an awesome action movie with a good and sweet story with some funny dialogue written by David Koepp and John Kamps, great acting performances by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dania Ramirez, Jamie Chung, Wole Parks and Michael Shannon, impressive directing by David Koepp, exicting chasing scenes and a touching message about a very talented, cocky but kind and likeable bike messenger named Wilee learning that in order to make things better you do what you can to help people in need no matter how confusing and difficult the mission may seem at first.
Overall Premium Rush is an awesome movie that's as fun and exicting as riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disney World because it makes your spine tingle and your endorphins rush premium style.
So if you liked Joseph Gordon-Levitt in movies like: (500) Days of Summer, 50/50, Inception and The Dark Knight Rises and you lower your expectations then I guarantee you'll like his great acting performance in Premium Rush.
I give Premium Rush 4 out of 5 stars, a Full Price and I hope you enjoy Premium Rush.
Comment by Kelly on December 30, 2012 at 7:54pm While I don't agree precisely with every one of your points, I do agree that MLP Friendship is Magic is extremely over-rated by it fans. But I still would love to hear Cyrus and Brian give their opinion of it though. They've reviewed worse, so quality isn't a criteria, and the show's fandom is a pretty big phenomena so it's worth bringing up if nothing based on that.
Flapjack's not that great. It has beautiful art but a lot of the episodes are really boring and underwhelming. And while I like Adventure Time it has its moments of meh too.

Oh, so YOU'RE the one. I find Tim and Eric about as funny as hearing my doctor telling me I have anal and testicular super cancer, with a side of AIDS.

Comment by DarkSyndicate on December 28, 2012 at 5:28pm Why would they even need to bother? Look, I had even watched seasons 1 and 2 of 'My Little Pony' and really, there is nothing all that special about it.
I would say that you are far better off watching more funnier, wittier, well written, better animated and awesome shows such as 'Regular Show', 'Flap Jack', 'Gravity Falls' and of course, 'Adventure Time', which is is by far the utmost greatest animated show on television today.
Comment by PirateLordBush on December 28, 2012 at 10:11am @Brian There's a South-Korean movie called "Nameless Gangster" that i'm really interested in, and would really love for you guys to talk about. And yes, i did just read about it on FilmSchoolRejects.
