Rupert Sanders' 'Snow White and the Huntsman' was a surprising project in many ways. It was near the crest of this wave of fairy tale and/or history re-imagination tidal wave and was actually the second of two Snow White revisions to be released last year, and definitely the better of the two. The offscreen romance between star Kristen Stewart and director Sanders was also rather unexpected, and made for juicy headlines. However, the biggest shocker of all is that Stewart managed to star in a contemporary fantasy film...that didn't suck! As soon as 'SWatH' wrapped, word got out that a sequel was in the works, but a new director would be required to replace Wyatt who was, unsurprisingly, let go. It was said that the sequel would steer the story away from Snow White and more toward The Huntsman (played in the first film by Chris Hemsworth). Now, it appears that plan may have to be altered, as Stewart has just confirmed that she will indeed be returning for the followup movie.
I really did enjoy 'Snow White and the Huntsman,' and I say that as someone who tends to think Kristen Stewart was not so much born as she was molded out of fiberglass and vapidness. To her credit, she really brought it when playing Snow White. Now admittedly it may be that she was just exploring the novelty of making an actual effort, but I dug her in the movie nevertheless. That being said, I was kind of excited to see the second film split off and talk more about The Huntsman. I am convinced that no small part of that anticipation was predicated upon how much his 2012 cinematic triumphs, 'Cabin in the Woods' and 'The Avengers,' stoked my raging man crush on Chris Hemsworth. What? Don't judge. (Clears throat) Back to Stewart for a moment, my hope is that the evaporation of the 'Twilight' franchise will allow her to focus on continuing to bring her best to her performances and therefore benefit 'Snow White and the Huntsman 2.' A lot of this is also going to depend on who ends up directing.
What do you guys think? Thoughts on Stewart's return? Would you have been more likely to see a 'SWatH' sequel that focused on the Hunstman? Who should helm the next movie?

I don't hate Kristen Stewart. It just annoys me that because of her twilight fame and it's fan base she'll continue to get more work with her mediocre acting skills than better, younger actresses.
Her dead expressions really took me out of the film during SWatH drama scenes.
Comment by Kim on December 24, 2012 at 1:29pm Personally, I'm no fan of Kristen Stewart's. She's not that good of an actress IMO. Someone below mentioned that she's no different from Michael Cera. Well, guess what? I'm not a fan of his either. She's MUCH different from Cera because all the characters that he plays are essentially THE SAME FUCKING CHARACTER! At least Kristen Stewart's characters have entirely different personalities. The problem with her isn't the non-Twilight roles she is hired for, it's the fact that she's just doesn't have much of a range in terms of acting talent. Despite the vastly different characters she plays, she manages to perform them all the same.

Comment by Boatloads1017 on December 23, 2012 at 4:37pm Well fuck. There went all my interest.
Comment by BadAss Knives on December 23, 2012 at 4:23pm That's true Nightshadow, she gets too much hate. She is not that bad of an actress.
Comment by Nightshadow on December 23, 2012 at 3:06pm This girl gets way to much hate.
Comment by Jon Riddle on December 23, 2012 at 1:00pm Stewart's performance in the Twilight series was competent and suited the character of Bella Swan (such as it is) effectively enough.
That said, I couldn't stand her incessant pouting in Snow White and the Huntsman. It was like, somewhere down the line, an acting coach instructed Stewart that the lower lip is the only part of the human face that shows emotion. Although I willfully ponied up the money for the first Huntsman movie (matinee price) and enjoyed myself, I don't think I'll come back for a second helping.
Peace.
Comment by Miracleman on December 23, 2012 at 11:10am Man, she gets WAY more shit than she deserves. She's not the only actress who can only play one character. She DOES have a range (a limited one, but still a range), just not she really shows in Twilight. Because in Twilight, the character herself is a lip-biting emotionless whiny object. But she's not exactly a whole lot worse than Michael Cera, range-wise. EVeryone who's wishing death upon her needs to chill the fuck out. She hasn't killed anyone.
