Dennis Haysbert Cast As Manute In 'Sin City 2'

Robert Rodriguez's 2005 adaptation of Frank Miller's 'Sin City' graphic novel series was visually arresting and boasted a stellar cast of top-shelf talent. When it was announced that 'Sin City 2' was in the works, and that it would be pulling from different corners of the comic's canon, it became apparent that even characters who had not made it out of the first film alive could return for the sequel. Sadly however, one of the actors who had appeared in the first movie has passed away since its release. Michael Clarke Duncan died in September and his character, Manute, will factor heavily into the plot of 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.' It now appears that the filmmakers have found a replacement. Dennis Haysbert ('24,' 'The Unit') will be playing Manute in the sequel, which will soon continue shooting in Austin, Texas. Rodriguez is co-directing the film along with Miller.

I was wondering when this would happen. Though Duncan's character played a small role in 'Sin City,' as Rodriguez mentions in the original article, it would be impossible to tell the 'Dame to Kill For' story without Manute. The reason for this substitution is sad, but given that it is necessary to replace Michael Clarke Duncan, I think Haysbert is a suitable choice. I like him more on TV than I do in movies, but he is definitely an actor of considerable skill. It'll be interesting to see how audiences react to seeing him in a movie like this, mostly because I think more people know Haysbert by his distinctive voice than they do by his screen presence; perhaps even more so by his All State commercials. He certainly won't cut the same imposing stature as did Duncan, but that doesn't preclude his his appropriateness for this role. For a while, long before Duncan's passing, it was unclear whether they were ever going to get 'Sin City 2' off the ground. Though they are on shooting break right now, it does appear that things are rolling nicely on 'A Dame to Kill For.'

What do you guys think? Is Haysbert the right choice to replace Duncan? Are you excited for 'Sin City 2.'

Good ol' Michael...

Haysbert is a good replacement in my book, I just hope Rodriguez will get his shit together and make a good, if not great, film. His last couple of movies were utter bullshit, and I'm a big Rodriguez fan

Is it too much to ask for a topless Nancy on the stage this time around? If Jessica Alba won't do it, replace her as well! (Lindsay Lohan would do it, and she's worked with Rodriguez before...)

Aaron Lee Lozano, Stop hating, especially as you haven't watched machette kills and or sin city 2. As for the "joke feeling" its adapting a noir frank miller graphic novel series. Having a noir story comes with the weird comparisons("felt like a shit filled diaper laying out in the sun" and etc" and things that feel like jokes. Frank miller draws up a lot of negative feelings in the comic community now a days, as you may find his stuff poorly written and open for being labeled as sexist (and in the case of holy terror, racist). So you can see how the nearly page to page adaption of his stuff may come off as a bit of a joke.

@Austin, That was Tom 'Tiny' Lister Jr, he also played the President in The Fifth Element and Deebo in Next Friday.

As for Dennis Haysbert, well, he's the President, he could play whoever he wants!

I think it is a great replacement for the role because Michael Clarke Duncan's character in the first Sin City was so small that when the new film comes out I think people won't even notice the difference, and it will be like Dennis Haysbert will be playing a whole new character in the new movie !!!! Hell I didn't even know his name was Manute in the first film, the character was on screen for like what 5 minutes or something (LOL) so it won't even make a difference, and Haysbert's voice is really cool just like Duncans was !!! Besides Dennis Haysbert needs more work anyway besides those crazy ass Allstate commercials !!!!! LOL

I think Ving Rhames could've been a good replacement to play Manute. For a replacement for Shellie, I think SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR should be a good replacement too!
