Comment by Shinigami64 on December 2, 2012 at 6:46pm A couple of days ago, there was a live Q&A with a Ninja Theory staffer concerning DmC: Devil May Cry (can we just acknowledge that this title is pretty stupid for a second...?). This is what I posted on the Devil May Cry fb page:
"Here's a few questions: If Dante and Vergil are half demon/angel, why the fuck do they even look human?
And why doesn't Dante have an Angel Trigger as well as his Devil Trigger?
Why does his appearance not really change outside of color palette when he uses Devil Trigger?
Why does his hair turn white and his coat red, really?
Is that NOT obvious pandering to fans of the franchise in the same way force-fucking Vergil into the story was? Everything about the initial trailer released would indicate that there was no intention of including Vergil or crafting a way for this Dante to look more like the old one. So what gives?
Why wouldn't a cocky, angst-ridden outsider taunt his opposition?
How is anyone that's watched a movie made within the last 25 years NOT supposed to telegraph the cliche-riddled narrative this game clearly has?
The reckless loner without a care or connection to the world around him finds a cause to fight for by developing a relationship with a special girl. Through it all, he begins a path to self-discovery that leads him to mentors (Vergil and the magical negro demon) and redefining experiences. Stop me when I get any of this wrong. He will learn the importance of trust and honor, and face his greatest challenge when he learns that everything he's come to know isn't what it seems...Specifically, Vergil will betray him.
How is this innovative or original again?"
Fact of the matter is Ninja Theory is NOT the right company to trust your action game with, and I say that based entirely on their run of the mill library (Heavenly Sword and Enslaved, not Kung Fu Chaos...that's unfair). Nothing in their catalog has the complexity of the Devil May Cry series, and their work is frankly nothing outside of button mashing. Meanwhile, Platinum Games has shown that they can handle action titles with an absurd amount of skill. Vanquish, Bayonetta, Anarchy Reigns, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance...any one of these titles make Ninja Theory's body of work look like a joke. Plus, the company is largely made up of past Capcom employees including Hideki Kamiya, the man that created Devil May Cry. That may be the only reason why Capcom didn't approach them to make this game. Doesn't change the fact that they should have though...
Comment by Zgamer on December 2, 2012 at 5:44pm Totally can't call this week due to business, but I will definitely call next time. You better pick up though, because last time I was on forever and no one chose me. Hope you are having a great week too Kevin and Jeff.
Comment by Lyncath on December 2, 2012 at 5:37pm About the new Devil May Cry; it's being done by a British studio, not an American one.
It actually looks really damn good, I personally think that the "Modern Evil" setting works better than "Gothic Evil".
