Fans of NBC's 'Community' are probably well-acquainted with the tension that frequently cropped up behind the scenes. This tension usually boiled down to the temperamental Chevy Chase, who plays the curmudgeonly Pierce Hawthorne, and his constant issues with show creator Dan Harmon. Chase made no secret of his distaste for the writing and jokes; often storming off set or just flat out refusing to take part in certain gags. When 'Community' was scheduled to return to the airwaves, sans Mark Harmon, many wondered if these problems had been solved. However it appears Chase's dissatisfaction with 'Community' could not be quelled by Harmon's departure. It has been announced that, effective immediately, Chase will also be exiting. This was said to be a mutual agreement between the actor and the show's executives. 'Community's fourth season is mostly shot, with only one or two episodes to go, though when these completed episodes will air seems to keep changing. As it stands, season four arrives February 7th.

That sound you're hearing is not one person on this planet being surprised by this news. Chase's relationship with Harmon, his open, bilious frustration with the show and with his character, and his constant temper tantrums instantly slapped a ticking clock on his run on the show. I gotta say I did let myself believe that Harmon's firing, after leaving that not-so-tactful angry voicemail on Chase's phone, might calm things down a bit. And indeed, they were able to get Chase to do the majority of the fourth season. But it's not as if I ever fooled myself into thinking that everything was copacetic now, I mean we are still talking about Chase's ego, right? He was so great in the 80s, in all those classic comedies that made him a legend, but even as a 'Community' fan I can't say I'm going to miss him. His character was always such a drag for me and I don't think they're going to have a hard time filling that spot at the study table. Is it too much to hope that another 80s legend might step in? Did someone say Dan Aykroyd?

What do you guys think? Are you upset Chase is leaving? Do you think he means it this time? Who might you chose as a replacement for Pierce?

For anyone who is wondering why he took the gig, he said he did it for the paycheck because it would be selfish not to considering his kids and family in general. He also said it was a sitcom so it was literally the lowest form of comedy/entertainment...which he has a point I guess just on sitcoms on the whole. I don't know why he eventually got so angry, maybe because the writers got too full of themselves and started thinking Community was bigger than the name of Chevy Chase (which is incorrect). Basically we'll never know what happened but if you all hated his characters, that's on the writers more than him minus him taking the job. I was always confused by his character on the show just because it didn't seem very Chevy Chase...like they didn't know how to use his talent at all. Like if you put Bill Murray in an Adam Sandler picture and made him do funny voices for an hour and a half. Sure I bet he can do it, but why would you do that!?

I'm glad I was starting to hate him on the show. I think it will be better off.

Is Mark Harmon still going to be a part of NCIS?

You know, I never watched this show...tried to a few times, but got bored quickly and moved on. Then again, I normally do not like comedies...ANY comedies..

Pierce had hist moments, but they were few and far between him being a prick. I could handle him a LOT more than Shirley, though, who was way underutilized for her being tough-funny and more often just a cotton-candy killjoy who threw in Christian stuff too often. Considering she would occasionally break out with a mean side, you'd think they would have played off on that more especially with Pierce as a counter.

I hope that with his leave that at the very least they improve upon the writing for her and Britta at least.

Not suprised and I wont miss Chase at all. Later dude, out with the old in with the new. I'm pretty sure they can replace him with a fresh new face that'll bring new life to the show.

LOL I was wondering if anyone else was going to notice the "Mark Harmon" typo.

I love the show and everyone in it but trying to ignore the fact that Chase was having a war behind the scenes was always a little bit of a distraction. I'd say the blame was on both sides. They hired a man who has a history of being a problematic actor and then the head writer decides to antagonize him? That's never going to go well. You could tell the whole cast was trying their best to put on a happy face and not take sides but they're probably happy for it to be done and maybe if Season 4 goes well we can see 5 with no stress at all? As for replacements they have a great back catalog of people that could step up, heck I'd nominate Leonard as the groups "new oldguy".

Good riddance. I started liking Pierce around season 3 but the show can work without him.
