silent hill 1 was the best in the series ,followed very close by silent hill 2 ,after silent hill 2 all the silent hill series is shit.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting Silent Hill HD Collection for the 360, but I think I'll buy most of the games seperately for the PS2.

Silent Hill 2 stands as the best in the series and they re-released it as a pack with 2 and 3 together.  So you can pick that up and play it on PS3 and I think 360.  They didn't redo part one and the controls are a bit dated for an original PlayStation game.  I would start with the remade 2 and 3.   If you have a Wii, Silent Hill Shattered Memories is worth a play.  You use the Wiimote as a flash light, and ghosts talk through it to you.

Play the first and second game.. those two are by far the best in the franchise. Just the soundtrack alone is amazing, as well as the creature designs.
