Comment by Manuel Guardado on September 4, 2012 at 10:46pm I know I've heard Leon and Cyrus talk about stand up before, so I was surprised to hear that no one knew who Birbiglia was. He's been around for a long time and is a well known comic in that community.
Comment by nonillogical on September 4, 2012 at 4:15pm How could you be unaware of Birbiglia's sleepwalking condition if you're a fan of his comedy? Practically half of two of his albums are all about it. There are at least 3 scenes in the trailer for this modeled directly after bits from those albums.
Glad to hear this is so good, I'm looking forward to it.
Comment by Abraham_uk on September 3, 2012 at 4:12pm You know what.
If you can be so passionate at what you do that you keep performing to audiences bombing really badly and then still keep going. Wow. I respect you.
That persistance. Even if you achieve nothing, I will raise you a drink. Keep doing what you're doing. Keep trying. Never give up.
I would love to watch this film.
Comment by Nappystr8 on September 2, 2012 at 1:50am Weird. Mike Birbiglia was one of the first stand up comedians I ever really got into. I had no idea he had this sleepwalking condition. He is really really funny, I wonder if he specifically made himself less funny for the character in this movie? Or maybe the Spill Crew just has no taste (joking). I really hope I get a chance to catch this movie in theaters, it sounds excellent.
Comment by Austen Messick on September 2, 2012 at 12:44am I too love NPR and I have dropped other websites because of my late-twenties trying to get to basics mode. But, I keep listening to spill because it is like listening to a bunch of friends talk about NPR shit they heard. If Radiolab ever makes a movie, I am there too. For me it is RadioLab #1, This American Life a close #2.
Thanks for a great review!!!
Comment by Ronald Ray-Gun on September 1, 2012 at 6:54pm I've been a Mike Birbiglia fan for a while now and it's hard for me to believe he was ever as bad a comic as he's portrayed in this film. I saw a set of his on youtube where he just improvised and he killed. Talk about honing your craft. I definitely want to see this movie but I can wait until it's on netflix or one of the movie channels.
Comment by Josh J on September 1, 2012 at 10:40am Not to get off topic, but will you guys be reviewing Samsara? I've been dying to hear your thoughts on the film.
Comment by Santos on September 1, 2012 at 3:11am Korey sounds like he has a cold.
Comment by obscurefan on August 31, 2012 at 11:53pm This sounds like a really interesting film that I might have to check out. As someone who does stand up comedy I can say that when it comes to bombing, its really hard to turn it all around with just one joke, unless you can wake the audience up and usually that involves completely changing something around to knock them off balance. First time I was bombing in a club I started pulling out my best stuff and nothing was working, it was one of the worst feelings I had ever had, just this weight building and building on me, and I'll admit, I just snapped there on stage and started ranting wildly, and the audience burst into laughter and loved it.
