Just when you thought it was safe to get blackout drunk again, wait, why would you ever think that was safe? Anywho, Warner Brother is prepping the third installment of their 'Hangover' franchise. 'The Hangover III' will re-team director Todd Phillips with actors Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galiafianakis. One role Phillips still needs to fill before production begins is that of a minor antagonist, said to be in the same vein as Paul Giamatti's character from 'The Hangover II.' It now appears that Phillips is after veteran actor John Goodman for the part. Goodman lends his voice to 'ParaNorman,' opening today, and will also appear in Ben Affleck's 'Argo' as well as 'Trouble with the Curve' before the year is out. 'The Hangover III' is set to hit theaters May 24th, 2013.
I love John Goodman. He's one of the those mainstay acting talents who can easily work within any genre. He's a time-tested pro who has proven his comedic chops time and time again. I feel I need only point to his Vice Dean Laybourne on NBC's 'Community' as evidence. I'm sure he'll have no problem making something memorable of this meager role. My concern however is not with the actor they are in negotiations with to play the part, but with the part itself. The biggest problem with 'The Hangover Part II' is that it beat-for-beat rehashed the plot of the first. The worry with the third installment then naturally becomes that it will be yet another return to this tired formula. The fact that they are describing the part as being in the vein of Paul Giamatti's character from 'The Hangover Part II' does little to curb concerns that the new movie will be another carbon copy of the first. Giamatti was the new Ken Jeong, now Goodman will be the new Giamatti. Let's hope I'm wrong.
What do you guys think? Excited Goodman is coming aboard? Think this 'Hangover' entry will be different?

Comment by Eric Turpel on August 20, 2012 at 12:14am I'd be glad to see John Goodman. might make the new one better.
Comment by Brian Button on August 19, 2012 at 12:26pm I wish John Goodman was in more things. To me, he has the same power as John Candy, when he laughs I immediately want to laugh along.
Comment by Slicer3000 on August 19, 2012 at 12:59am I hope he's not like Paul Giamatti's character from the 2nd one. that would really piss me off.
He will be the repairman, who repairs man.

Comment by Chris james on August 17, 2012 at 5:56pm It's a shame how bad Hangover 2 was. The 1st one was a better than sex, part 2 was bullsh#t to me. Heres hoping for a better part 3......but I'm not getting my hopes up.
