We've often said, out of bitterness and spite, that there is nothing Hollywood won't reheat, repackage, and shove into production if there is any money left to be made. This certainly seemed to be the motivating factor behind 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull;' or at least the only motive that makes any sense. So I'd hazard few of us were surprised when a buzz developed shortly thereafter for the prospect of a fifth Indiana Jones movie. We assumed it would star Harrison Ford again, but perhaps would instead focus on Shia LaBeouf's character, to whom the mantle was symbolically passed. We dreaded it, but then it stalled. However, the threat of this misguided plan loomed. Now according to mega-producer Frank Marshall (who produced, among many other things, all of the previous Indy films), we may finally be able to breathe easy. He casts his doubts on the likelihood of ever seeing another Indiana Jones outing in a recent interview...

“I say, for me, [Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is] the last hurrah.  I know that yes, we talk about it, but there’s no idea, there’s no MacGuffin.”

Look, part of us is always going to want more Indiana Jones stories. That character, and more specifically Harrison Ford's inhabiting of that character, is an indelible aspect of many of our own personal geekdoms. But at some point, we have to be willing to let things go. For me, when Indiana Jones rode off into the sunset at the end of 'Last Crusade,' that journey was over. As bad as 'Crystal Skull' was, I understand why some still defend it, still hold fast to any good that they can possibly mine from it, because it was, for many of us, the first Indiana Jones story of our grown up existence. I am relieved to read these comments from Marshall, and I hope he is sincere. As much as I may want more from Dr. Jones, Ford's window to logistically play that character is fast closing and there is no need to drag this thing out to a sad, pathetic conclusion. I won't cheer, I won't dance vulgarly in glee at the death of 'Indy 5.' I'll simply breathe a sigh of relief.

What do you guys think? Could a fifth Indiana Jones have worked? Don't you think it's better to let this go?

Alright.... I'm in for it.... if Indy would break a hip in some tunnel run and die in the fifth one.

I'm definitely in the minority when I say that I quite enjoyed Indy 4. All the reasons people seemed to hate the movie are the reasons why I liked it. I don't like Shia in everything but I think he actually fits here and could grow the franchise successfully. The over-the-top scenes like the ant scene and the car scene AND the monkey scene all worked for me. I was also happy that they went with one of my absolute favorite paranormal topics, the ancient astronaut theory, as the major story. The lore of the crystal skulls is something that has always fascinated me and to me, inter-dimensional beings are much more believable and interesting than say spiritual forces sourced from biblical scripture. I saw this movie as a new beginning, the start of a new franchise, and not a direct sequel to the original movies. I will always love the originals, but this was quite good for ME.

31 I don't know what movie you saw but I saw a huge hunk of shit. Maybe you were watching temple of doom again. IJ5 had horrible special effects, watch the scene with the car chase and the swinging monkeys, the monkeys in the wizard of oz are more believable. The ant hill, what the f@&$ was that? A horrible choice for mutt, a stupid name and horrible idea to begin with, the least they could have done was back it with solid acting. Then to top it all off they go completely out of the scope of spiritualism that the first three films were based on and instead have a spaceship hidden in a waterfall with live dormant aliens. George Lucas lost his f'in marbles somewhere in the eighties or early nineties and has commenced to insert cock into the ass of our childhoods. Please do not defend this once genius turned hack. This film would have never seen the theaters if it didn't say Indiana Jones, George Lucas, and Stephen Spielberg. It really seems like a script from a syfy channel movie converted to an IJ film. This all comes after me forgiving the nuke the fridge scene at the beginning of the film.

Spill Crew, or whoever watched this movie and wrote this overly opinionated post, i plead to you, watch Crystal Skull again. its actually not a bad movie. you hyped yourself up so much when it came out, hated it because it wasnt what you wanted, and thats it, you never gave it a fair chance. ive seen it on tv since its been out, and for a movie thats on a sunday afternoon and youre home chilling, its a relaxed and entertaining little movie.

@Jacob - you got it wrong. Shia blew up the old lady and raped the orphanage. Thats why we hate him.

Can somebody tell me why it seems everybody hates my boy Shia Le"boof"? Did he rape an elderly woman or blow up an orphanage? I don't know, I guess I'm the only one that thinks he's a pretty natural actor. . .

in my own opinion they i never thought they shouldn't had mad a 4th Indiana Jones movie. so hearing that they have no plans to do a 5th one dose not surprise me.

I was thinking the same as The McDougal Bugle. Who writes these blogs?

Anyway. I don't think there is any need for another Indiana Jones film.

Raiders of The Lost Arc was a fantastic thrill ride.

Temple of Doom was really fun to watch.

The Last Crusade was still really good.

The Crystal Skull was fun. It had Indiana Jones. It was a nice CGI fest with some moments that would have worked well in 3D. But it was also stupid.

The hide in a fridge to survive a nuclear bomb was stupid.

Cate Blanchett doing a Russian accent was stupid.

The Crystal Skull linked to Aliens?

Nevertheless it was a lot of fun. Nice bit of Nostalgia. Harrison Ford is still great.

We don't need another trip down memory lane, especially if Shia LeBoeuf is replacing Harrison Ford, I'm out.

More bad films can't ruin Indiana Jones for me. But they are chunks of wasted time, effort and money.
