Susan Sarandon Joins The Cast Of 'Hell & Back'

Earlier this year, it was reported that Mila Kunis ('Black Swan,' 'Ted') would be joining the cast of Tommy Gianas' 'Hell & Back.' The R-rated stop-motion comedy centers on a two guys who must rescue their buddy after he is accidentally dragged into hell. The film currently boasts the voice talents of Nick Swardson, TJ Miller, Bob Odenkirk, Rob Riggle, and Brian Posehn. The script was written by 'Robot Chicken' scribes Hugh Sterbakov and Zeb Wells and is currently in production. Now it appears Susan Sarandon is climbing aboard the project as well. She will be voicing an angel named Barb, possibly the counter to Kunis' rogue half-demon? In addition, the cast has gained the likes of Jennifer Coolidge (the 'American Pie' franchise) and standup comedienne Maria Bamford. No word yet on when the film is due to be released.

Susan Sarandon, eh? That certainly can't hurt the project. She has a very distinctive voice that lends itself well to animated fare. I like the idea of her playing an angel, though I hope she has a bit of an edge to her. I gotta say, I'm really impressed with this cast so far, though not totally surprised. 'Hell & Back' is being produced by ShadowMachine, the company behind 'Robot Chicken;' a show known for its expansive roster of recurring celebrity guests. As an avid fan of standup comedy, I'm happy to see so many great comedy talents lending their voices to the proceedings. Maria Bamford is one of my favorites, and come on, Brian Posehn? That guy is all kinds of hilarious. I'm even a big fan of Nick Swardson's standup, to the point that I often think he should return to the stage and never do a movie again. I'm interested in this film conceptually so I'll forgo my distaste for Swardson's other movies, but suffice to say he's not the big draw here for me.

What do you guys think? Are you excited that Sarandon is part of the cast? Does this project interest you?

How does one accidentally gets dragged into hell? Curious.

Ooh, I'd never even heard of this until now. Cool stuff.

Angels have been portrayed as a little dickish in the past few years (Supernatural, Legion...) so I don't think you'll have to worry about her having an edge.  The perfect virtuous flawless angel is boring and no one wants to see that on screen anymore.

I love all five seasons of Robot Chicken so I will give these guys their shot, and Nick Swardson was funny when he was on Reno 911. This could be a huge failure but it also could be a cult phenomenon.

I can't watch anything with Nick Swardson ever again, lest I inadvertently help him make another movie. Sucks.
