Ryan Reynolds Confirmed For 'Highlander' Remake
Last month it was reported that Ryan Reynolds was in negotiations for the lead role in Summit/Lionsgate's remake of Russell Mulcahy's 'Highlander.' The new version would be directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo ('Intacto') and had been in the works for some time. Well now a source is confirming that Reynolds' deal has been finalized. He will play Connor Macleod, of clan Macleod, who discovers that he is a member of a dying breed of swashbuckling immortals who wander the Earth to find others of their kind...and then kill them. The script for the new 'Highlander' was penned by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (the duo behind 'Iron Man') with a rewrite preformed by 'Twilight's Melissa Rosenberg. Still no word on a release date.
Well, there you have it. Once again, I like Ryan Reynolds, but even if I wasn't his biggest fan, I'm not sure this would raise my hackles in the slightest. I mean come on, it's 'Highlander' for crying out loud. I maintain that the TV series starring Adrian Paul was actually better than the movie anyway so it's not as if the studio is treading on holy ground here. Now if they remake Mulcahy's 'Razorback,' I'll have a lot more to say. That's neither here nor there. Reynolds has the ability to be an action lead and was actually one of my favorite parts of 'Blade: Trinity,' much of the rest of that movie notwithstanding. He did some sword-slinging in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' as Deadpool, but I can't comment on how that will benefit or hurt him here because I've largely repressed all memory of that movie. The rewrite by Rosenberg still troubles me, but it's not as if she had genius material to work with adapting the 'Twilight' books so I guess I should cut her some slack. In summation, prepare for a smarmy, impossibly ripped MacLeod.
What do you guys think? Happy Reynolds is officially on board? Disappointed? Apathetic? Hungry? A little achy?

I (not only cause I'm Canadian) really love Reynolds' perfomances. Highlander too! But seeing him messin around trying a scottish accent on won't be so cool

Um. Yeah. No. At this point, the only thing - I repeat, THE ONLY thing I'm interested in seeing Ryan Reynolds do is the Deadpool movie. Anything and everything else he does can go fuck itself right in the ear.

Add to this the fact that it has Melissa Rosenberg who is just fucking terrible at everything she has ever done from Party of 5 to Twilight and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who is also just freakling Terrible.
This is going to be worse than terrible

This movie will have the exact same premise as Green Lantern. Only thing is switch out The Green Lantern Core For The Immortals of the Clan McLeod and The Yellow Energy For The Rival Immortals. Switch out the Rings for the Quikening. Also Replace Kilowog with Ramirez. Its going to be the same fucking thing and it is going to suck just the same.

Actually... I like this casting a lot. Though his neck will be so under-protected with his shirt off for half the film.
And I'm sure that I'm the odd one out but, with how much terrible shit is clogging up the Highlander "canon," a reboot was probably needed. Hopefully they stop at this one film this time and don't get into all that crazy Zeist stuff.
