@Jordon, you're not alone man, I find it very annoying as well listening to grown adults talk about the prequels. I see far worse movies then the prequels every year that no body whines anywhere near this much about. I get it, people have their nostalgia glasses on, It's Star Wars, that's the only reason there's strong feeling on these movies one way or the other. In truth, for me anyway, looking at the prequels logically they are simply average blockbuster fair, neither deserving or great praise and the ridiculous amount of ridicule they get. Yes, expectations from fanboys were too high, there's no other reason three average films would be called some of the worst films ever made. I'm sorry, but if anyone calls the prequels some of the worst films they've ever seen they haven't seen enough movies. Most years I see at least one blockbuster during the summer that I would say is worse then any SW prequel film.

If he's really stepping away, maybe the next person in line can release original prints of the original trilogy.

@Jordan: You think this is the only franchise 'bitched' about year after year? You should see some of the Highlander arguments I've had at cons...

In counterpoint, I have talked to plenty of non-diehard fans that found the Prequels absolute crap. In a few cases, it was forcing them to watch the Originals that made them realize WHY anyone liked this series. The characters are absolutely wooden, the dialogue is TERRIBLE, the plots garbage and worst of all....the main point of the series (to show the turning of Anakin into Vader) was so horribly handled that he comes off as a titanic whining bitch. The infamous 'NNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!' scene is the cap of crap that buries the Prequels into the annals of the stupid.

Do I think they deserve the hate? Yup. This was the laziest of film-making, and the most banal. They spent so much time trying to impress us with special effects that they never ONCE tried to make a decent story or characters. Even as standardized and cartoonish as the Original characters were, they were at least fun, snarky, snappy and a delight to watch. The Prequel characters have the personalities of an Excel spreadsheet. A blank one.

Friend, I wrote a better script than Phantom Menace in an improv discussion at a con a few years ago over the course of about 30 minutes...good enough that two Prequel fans PREFERRED IT over the original story. It wasn't hard. THAT should tell you just how lazy those films were. Almost ANYONE could have done better. Lucas never tried. He just made something to market. Period. And he STILL insists that the films were better than the Originals.

So yeah, he deserves the hate and boos. He deserves the slings and arrows. He deserves my foot in his ass.
