Natalie Portman Saddles Up For 'Jane Got A Gun'
Natalie Portman ('Black Swan,' 'Thor') has quite the interesting dance card lined up. Not only is she slated to reprise her role as Jane Foster in Marvel's 'Thor' sequel, but she's also attached to not one, but two upcoming Terrence Malick flicks. Well, it looks like she can now add a western to that busy schedule. Portman has just signed on to star in, and produce, 'Jane Got a Gun.' The film will center on a woman who must defend her farm from her husband's outlaw gang with the help of an ex-lover. 'Jane Got a Gun' will be directed by Lynne Ramsay ('We Need to Talk About Kevin') and is currently in a bidding war with multiple financiers at the Cannes film market.
Natalie Portman is a fantastic actress, I think most of us would agree on that. I'm interested to see what she does with this part, headlining a western is not really something she's done before. Sure, she was in 'Cold Mountain,' but she was hardly the star. More specifically, I'm interested to see how authoritative and involved in the violence her character is. The film is called 'Jane Got a Gun,' but the plot description makes it a bit nebulous whether she'll be doing the dirty work or if that task will fall to this ex-lover character. Personally, I'd love to see a western siege movie wherein Portman is just as comfortable brandishing a firearm as her male co-star; 'Assault on Ranch 13?' What really pleases me about this news is that Lynne Ramsay is getting to helm more projects with big name talent. 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' was one of the standout movies of last year, and I can't wait to see where Ramsay's career continues to take her.
