As you probably know, for
several months now, Summit, now Lionsgate/Summit, has been prepping a reboot to the 1986 cult classic
'Highlander.'
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo ('Intacto') is set to direct the reboot from a script by
'Iron Man' scribes
Art Marcum and
Matt Holloway...with a troubling touch-up by
Melissa Rosenberg of
'The Twilight Saga.' With all these pieces squarely in place, the only thing left to do was cast the immortal sword-swinging protagonist, played in the original film by
Christopher Lambert. Word has come down recently that
Ryan Reynolds ('Green Lantern') is the current frontrunner for the role. Apparently both Reynolds and the studio are very interested in working together though it's unclear if an official deal has been finalized at this time.
This project has been a bit of a see-saw of interest for me. First of all, as much as I may enjoy watching 'Highlander' from time to time, and as much as I love director Russell Mulcahy, it is by no means treading on holy ground to reboot it. The original film is super campy; it features Sean Connery as a Spaniard with a Scottish accent for crying out loud! But then the project was originally going to be directed by Justin Lin, of whom I am not particularly a fan. Luckily, he backed out and the incredibly talented Fresnadillo stepped in. If you haven't seen 'Intacto,' I highly recommend you correct this at once. Then of course, I think we were all a bit worried when the 'Twilight' screenwriter was brought in to lay hands on the script, but she also worked on 'Dexter,' so maybe a little credit should be lent. I'm happy to say this recent news swings the pendulum back in the positive direction. I like Ryan Reynolds a lot. People give him a lot of crap for his mugging comedic sensibilities, and I'll grant you those do exist, but he's also a more versatile performer than he gets credit for, and I can see him doing a dynamite job with this part. I mean come on, it's not as if Lambert is an overwhelming talent. What do you guys think?
Are you interested in a 'Highlander' reboot? What do you think of the casting of Reynolds?

Comment by Thomas J. Knight on May 22, 2012 at 8:26am five bucks says the script has Conner take his shirt off:
1. at the begining scene of the movie
2. durring the first flashback of scotland,
3. the first scenewith him and Rachel( who is now in her twenties to early thirties, since the writer didnt realise that Conner became her father figure/ guardian after WORLD WAR FUCKING 2.
4 when he finds out Brenda, the love intrest has been taken by the Kurgen, which will probably look like a gay greased up mix of Jacob black and the main villain of 300.
Comment by Thomas J. Knight on May 22, 2012 at 8:24am and I bet it willl have some of the shittiest pop songs known to main instead of queen and an orcestral score
Comment by Thomas J. Knight on May 22, 2012 at 8:09am okay just because she worked on dexter dosent mean she should work on this movie. I would love to see a remake when they get a beter writer and director to do this. like Joss Whedon or Chirstopher Nolan
