'Blade Runner' Screenwriter To Return For Sequel

Earlier this year, it was announced that Ridley Scott, after kinda/sorta revisiting the 'Alien' universe with 'Prometheus,' would be helming a sequel to his other seminal sci-fi film 'Blade Runner.' The 1982 film was based on the Philip K Dick story 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep,' with Hampton Fancher and David Webb Peoples penning the cinematic adaptation. Now it seems as if Fancher is in negotiations to again team with Ridley Scott to write the sequel. Evidently it was always Scott's intention that 'Blade Runner' would be the first in a series of films building upon themes and characters in Dick's story. The sequel will be produced by Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free, and Bud Yorkin.

I'm not sure how I feel about a 'Blade Runner' sequel. On the one hand, Scott created such an expansive, breath-taking sci-fi landscape out of that story that I would love another chance to explore it. And there is something to be said for the fact that their intention was always to make more films...except that's also what Lucas said about the 'Star Wars' prequels. It's also a shame that it's been pretty well established that Harrison Ford won't be returning for the new film. I understand that it would be logistically tricky for him to play Deckard again at his age, but I can't imagine a 'Blade Runner' film without him. I guess the silver lining here is that if they're going to make this movie anyway, it's good that they are bringing back one of the original screenwriters.

What do you guys think? Could a 'Blade Runner' sequel work? Would you be interested in seeing it?

Let me clarify: I think (like Cyrus) that Blade Runner is the best film of ALL TIME, despite the fact (or perhaps because of the fact) that is has little to do with "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?". I just think that Hollywood finds it hard to really grok PKD, even though the Hwood machine-borg is perpetually fascinated by him. Statistically speaking, the Blade Runner sequel will suck because 1) Hwood fucks up PKD more often than not 2) sequels, particularly decades apart, usually fuck themselves up.

Everyone picks over Philip K. Dick's bones (although PKD was still alive when Blade Runner was released) and, usually and ultimately, pisses on them in the process. Thus, one Blade Runner, three Blade Runners, what's the difference? The movie will still suck.

We don't need another movie just leave it alone and lets have one 80's movie without a reboot or sequel please.

Hollywood is gonna do this movie despite our protestations. So let's be realistic. The only way they could do this movie is if they used little to no CG and they got the cast of Firefly in the roles.

Nathan Fillion - The Blade Runner

Morena Baccarain and Gina Torres - Sexy Replicants

Alan Tudyk - Roy Batty

Adam Baldwin - Leon Kowalski

Sean Maher - Gaff

Jewel Staite - Smuggler

Summer Glau - Pris

STOP! It might have been ok 28 years ago, but know NO! Just stop it. Who really is putting a gun to your heads to make this movie????????????

It's such a classic film....leave it alone.

Not a good idea. One the story takes place in 2019. All we have to show for now is little robots that run. Plus everybody got old and their characters died in the movie so I can't see a sequel. Blade runner is fine the way it is. I wouldn't mind them exploring a similar theme and style that echos the movie and its cyberpunk tone but fuck sequels.

@matty, also Godfather part 2, Spiderman 2, and Aliens? Just off the top of my head....

Sequel is an atrocious idea. Just remake it, closer to the source material and you have what you want.
