Remember that 'Daredevil' movie with Ben Affleck? It was not so bueno. However, in the wake of the continued box office draw of Marvel's many characters, Fox is planning a reboot of the blind lawyer-turned-vigilante. As of now, this reboot is set to be directed by David Slade ('30 Days of Night,' 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse'). Recently, the studio moved the project a step further toward reality by hiring newcomer David James Kelly to rewrite the existing script. Kelly will be taking over for Brad Kane ('Fringe') who was originally brought aboard to pen the script. Rumor has it that the new Daredevil movie will be based on the 'Born Again' story arc by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli in which the Kingpin discovers Daredevil's true identity. No word yet on when the new Daredevil film is due out.
I'm not going to argue that 2003's 'Daredevil' was good, mostly because my eyes are functioning, but I like the character quite a bit and would love to see a decent film adaptation. Knowing only the tiniest bit about the 'Born Again' storyline, I'm glad to see it will be the basis of the new film. However, and with no disrespect intended to Mr. Kelly, I can't help but feel like there's been a step down at the writing position here. Kelly has never been credited with a single screenplay, and yet he's being brought in to rewrite a script by 'Fringe's Brad Kane? It seems ill-advised at best. I also have mixed feelings about Slade as the director for this project. Sure, I had fun with '30 Days of Night,' and 'Hard Candy' is a staggeringly effective film, but the words 'The Twilight Saga' on his resume are enough to give pause to my enthusiasm for this reboot. Of course, once they announce who will be playing Matt Murdoch, the conversation of who's rewriting the reboot will be overshadowed.
What do you guys think? Does this screenwriter changeover concern you? Do you believe Slade, as director, can pull this off?

Comment by Daredevil on May 2, 2012 at 11:02am @OdO I agree with you that I'm tired of seeing Luthor in a Superman movie. But, like I said in my previous comment I would prefer not to see Superman's origin.
Like you said we've already seen it done right in the 90s animated series, the Richard Donner flick, and Smallville. Isn't that enough? Do we need to see it again? While I would not mind seeing a live action merging of those versions, it's not necessary. Superman is one of the most well-known characters in the world. Everyone knows his origin.
Without his origin the movie can spend more time on a mew story and new villain. So basically what I'm saying is I want to see something new.
Not even Speilberg could make a Twilight book good for a movie

Whenever I look at John Goodman he always seems like a jolly guy, dunno if I can see him as the kingpin.

I hear that! Personally I haven't got a clue what his origin is nowadays, they've changed it and added to it and reinvented it so many times I don't know what's what! :(
@GotMagi,
We've had this conversation before. I assumed people already knew about his enhances senses, because that's common in blind people. Murdock's are just enhanced to the next level. Also, I believe Bendis and Brubaker's runs mentions ninja's as in plural. I just figured most people wouldn't care.
@HB Roboto,
You're right, DD does get lucky with the ladies, before, you know...anyways, being a fan of casual sex is one of the traits that separates DD from many of the other big name heroes he hangs with.

It depends on your point of view, Marvel keep updating the character's history and bio I have no idea what his history or powers are anymore!
Also Murdoch has had a lot of luck with women... before they die!
Comment by Prio on May 1, 2012 at 1:23am Wasn't Kurt Sutter writing it? What happened to that plan?
Comment by The Weekend Box Office on April 30, 2012 at 11:19pm Kevin Smith? I don't think so. He has done some decent stuff and I am aware that he has written some comic books that I have never read but I just don't see it.
