Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah' Picks Up Jennifer Connelly & Saoirse Ronan

Director Darren Aronofsky's Biblical epic 'Noah' is preparing to set sail. With Rusell Crowe set to play the Old Testament hero, word is now trickling in as to further casting. In a recent interview, Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman was asked about a number of projects including 'Noah.' He let slip that in addition to Crowe, the film would star Jennifer Connelly and Saoirse Ronan ('Hannah'). He also revealed 'Noah's budget and rating as well. Here's what he said...

"It will be a big, robust production and will have tremendous scale. It's the perfect combination of casting [Russell Crowe, Saoirse Ronan and Jennifer Connelly] and a remarkable adventure. This isn't what you think of when you think of Darren, but it will be very true to him as a filmmaker. It will be PG-13 and will likely cost around $125 million."

The casting of Jennifer Connelly is good news, as she is immensely talented. Given that Connelly has worked with Aronofsky in the past, on 'Requiem for a Dream,' it's easy to trace her involvement here. She is rumored to be playing a character named Naameh, which, after a little research appears to be one translation of the name of Noah's wife. As to Saoirse Ronan, though she has never worked with Aronofsky, her turn in 'Hannah' was incredible and I can't wait to see her in something of this scale; I mean, $125 million is by no means a meager budget. There are no clues yet as to who Ronan would be playing. The rating here actually makes a lot of sense. Though Aronofsky has traditionally helmed R-rated fare, his last epic, 'The Fountain,' also earned a PG-13 label. Besides, it's not as if we need to see a boatload of violence, cursing, and nudity in order to tell the story of Noah, right? Well, actually, I guess I could see how that would be enjoyable. In any event, what do you guys think?

Are you interested in Aronofsky's 'Noah?' What do you think of the latest casting?

LOL @Spill Tech Support

What a great cast.  I'm very interested to see Aronofsky's take on this material.  I just hope he makes all religious nuts angry about this flick because I find that to be very funny

@ Jvegi - That's Lot and his two daughters. Though I believe Noah cursed his sons for finding him drunk and showing off his junk.

I'm still hoping that this is more than just a straight-up telling of the Noah story and for now they're just witholding information.  I haven't disliked a single Aronofsky film so far (Yes, I even dug the Fountain), so I really have no reason to be skeptical, but I am.

@Alexs, and the second time Connelly is in an Aronofsky movie, which those two names alone, makes me interested.

this will be the second time Jennifer plays the wife of Rusell Crowe!

That's a hell of a cast. I'll admit to being a little bummed by the PG-13, there's some really dark places Aronofksy could go with the uncut source material I suppose we won't see.

In the story everybody made fun of Noah for building the boat, interesting how history repeats itself.  The casting looks great.
