Imprint Entertainment has just purchased the rights to 'Foxy, My Life in Three Acts,' the autobiography of Pam Grier. Grier, for those of you who don't know, is a world-renowned actress and absolute badass. She became an icon of the blaxploitation era of the 1970s with turns in such films as 'Coffy' and 'Foxy Brown,' and starred in Quentin Tarantino's 'Jackie Brown' in 1997; QT's cinematic acknowledgement of and reverence for her legacy. The autobiography largely centers on the actresses' personal life; her romantic entanglements as well as her battle with cancer. Imprint is looking to bring the book to the screen and has tasked Eunetta Boone ('Who Is Doris Payne?') with adapting it into a script. At this time, there has not been any mention of possible directors or who might be playing Grier in the film.
I can't tell you how happy I am to come across this piece of news. Pam Grier is one of my idols and I suspect I'm not alone on that front. She got her start in Roger Corman flicks like 'The Big Doll House' and 'Women in Cages' before becoming one of the first prominent female action stars during her stint in blaxploitation, a genre of which I am an enormous fan. But beyond all of this, she is a fearless, pioneering female and I cannot wait to see her story brought to the big screen. While it will be important to choose the right director for this biopic, the thing that will make or break it is who they cast to play Grier. This has to be an actress who can convey Grier's toughness and undeniable star power, but also her lesser-seen vulnerable side. I hesitate to even offer a suggestion as to who should do it, I think it's that daunting a task for the filmmakers.
What do you guys think? Who could you see playing Grier?

Comment by Cluff-Daddy on April 12, 2012 at 8:29am Craig Brewer for director. The 'God Bless America' girl from Hustle & Flow as Pam.
Comment by Kim on April 9, 2012 at 9:57am Kissedbyrain halle berry and Pam Grier look nothing alike. I would go with an unknown on this one.

Credit where credit is due.
Grier'em all.
Comment by kissedbyrain on April 8, 2012 at 8:40am For beauty Halle Berry, for her fire power, I don't see an equal. Her body type was also an important element of her screen magnetism, statuesque, buxom (natural), and her facial beauty and stoicism packed in an Amazon body. Very difficult. I don't think there is anyone out there that matches that. Aside from a handful of very intense ladies out there, most are plastic with plastic bodies. The intensity and natural X factor is absent. I think Angelina is intense but it is evident that she plays into the camera (not natural). Halle Berry has intensity but shows more vulnerablity, she doesn't give out that "be afraid of me" quality. It's more like: "be afraid of me...please". I think if they miscast Grier, the impact of who she is will be lost and become just another pic. She must be tough, in-your-face, intense, lots of natural fire power, and a body that Barbie would envy. I don't know. I haven't seen that before or after Pam Grier.
Comment by Smoppers on April 7, 2012 at 7:16pm Yeah, like others, I have no idea who could or even should play her. There aren't any "mainstream" actresses that I feel could really pull her off (Naturi Naughton maybe?). I don't have an issue with Meagan Good. She isn't well known outside of 'black' movies, and she hasn't really had a chance to prove herself, though I've liked what I've seen so far. But I'm leaning more towards going with an unknown. I'm REALLY hoping Hollywood doesn't go the way of "let's get the lightest black woman humanly possible, because we wouldn't want to scare our audience with a mildly dark woman" like they normally do.
Regardless of who they pick, we're going to bitch and moan about how it was a terrible decision, though.
Comment by Chris Winters on April 7, 2012 at 5:00pm Meagon Good IS an unknown. She's just underrated. I can say the same about Salli Richardson. When "Stomp the Yard" is your most known film, you may need this. Screw, Beyonce-all I see of her as Pam is Foxxy from Goldmember. Horrible.
Comment by Mr. Dark on April 7, 2012 at 3:42pm Best suggestion I've seen thus far is Salli Richardson...hands down. Problem is, she might be too old to play a young Pam Grier. None of the other suggestions work for me. I'd rather see someone unknown to us that looks the part, rather than Beyonce, Meghan Good, or any other "alleged" actress.
Comment by Arika on April 7, 2012 at 2:50pm This is very good news! I don't know who can play her but I don't think Megan Good should... literally going through a list of black actresses in my head and I don't see one who can embody her... I think an unknown black actress would be the best idea!
