Was this even meant to be a prequel to the Alien Franchise by Ridley Scott on purpose or is it a reboot or possibly a totally different sci fi universe Scott made up but with the same formula as the Alien franchise?

i think the biggest problem this film has is trying to please Fan-boys (witch is impossible) and people are going in with the wrong idea, THIS FILM IS NOT ALIEN !!!! totally different story, setting, time and characters, the only thing this film has in common with alien is some bits of the set
i do agree the soundtrack was too happy

just got back from this film and loved it, true to form Scott put in 2 rapes and an abortion, not quite as many as Alien with its abundance of sexually violence but still has great dialogue cinematography and story, sexually segregative aliens and truly unsettling scenes:BETTER THAN SEX (still allot left unsaid though, Prometheus 2???)

Enjoyed the crap out of Prometheus, if you haven't seen it, go see it and make up your own mind.

This film was a disappointment. Such bad pacing and story points. Even without a comparison to Aliens it still felt pretty generic cause of the story.

The majority of dislike I've seen has come from both over-hype and comparison to the previous film(s), which I don't think is fair. Sure its not as great as its predecessors, why, because they came first. I'm not a die hard aliens fan but I enjoyed the movie. That being said fuck going to space, and finding aliens, that shit 'll fuck you up.
