Also as chirpy detective (and Huey Lewis and the News fan) in American Psycho.

Comment by Kian410 on October 17, 2011 at 3:02am now I haven't seen this film, but what I was thinking from the review was that When the dad says that it wasn't always bad, and Ryan reynolds agrees, what it sounds like is that the movie shows everything through Ryan Reynolds hateful perspective, and that when you fully look into it, that it really wasn't all bad, but all you're shown is why reynolds hates him so much. I dunno, I'm just looking at this from the outside in, and as what I as a screen writer would have done. Because that's how I am with my father in a lot of ways, but I think that in the long run, he wasn't this horrible guy, it's just the torture that sticks out to us.
THEN AGAIN and sorry for this being long, there is no one who calls for a view from the father's perspective more than Leon, so if even HE isn't calling for that, then I dunno, maybe his perspective is just as bad or the movie doesn't offer any hints towards it being from Reynolds perspective. Maybe he's just kind of a turd.
I was kind of excited for this movie, but now I'm not sure. I don't mind familiar story elements because cliches are there because they work and have worked. So if you can buy into it, then there's no real issue. However, Aaron Sorkin told me once "the worst thing about this moment is that we celebrate stupidity. Fuck incompetence. and the only way to get rid of that incompetence is to acknowledge it and be perfectionists about it." Don't mean to pull a carlyle, but I got to eat dinner with the guy and he's my idol so I basically remembered every word. But Aaron is right, and the fact that there is such shitty edits and mood swings in the story should not be tolerated because it is incompetent that a multi-million dollar project should be filled with such shit. Also, the fact that it was made in 07 is kind of hilarious. I don't know if I want to see this one now. Great review, and sorry for typing so much, I'm really high right now, and I guess this is what I do.
