Comment by Matthew Fifer on August 2, 2011 at 9:39am I normally don't pay much attention to this kind of complaint, but one complaint it seemed everyone had on this film was how it was far too long. In fact both Cyrus and Leon say it was close to 2.5 hours and they thought almost 45 minutes should have been cut. I saw it last night, it was 113 minutes long...did I not see the full film?
Comment by The Dork Knight on August 1, 2011 at 10:56pm also..im assuming the only reason why they were walking when Ford was talking...was because they were allowing the horses to rest and not run. BUT it was still one of the scenes that bothered me the most. I thought it was gonna lead to something...and im like 'oh its advise about slitting someone's throat when the time calls for it...hmmmmm i wonder if that will happen later'..but that was it.
i did also notice how everyone else seemed to stop though haha!!! it was almost awkward because i was actually focusing on the people in background (Sam Rockwell and that Indian character who plays that kind of character in almost everything but is still great at it)...and I'm glad Rockwell atleast joked about whatever Ford said, because im like "ok atleast that scene added a shitty joke that atleast made me smile".
Comment by The Dork Knight on August 1, 2011 at 10:49pm @Lena ****SPOILER****
I know it never fully explained it, but there was a point where you see a pile of gold watches, jewelery, etc...so it seemed like they would pretty much steal their gold, and then it seemed like the harvested organs, or SOMETHING i have no idea what they did w/ Daniel Craig's wife but it seemed like they were taking something out of her side..then they would kill them, but it definitely did make much sense.
I guessed it early on about the gold...but to me I thought they were using the humans to mine for gold. So it was like gold was valuable to them for energy...but instead they end up just standing around looking at the light lol. If they are gonna make it about gold, they might as well go all the way and just use them as slaves. I almost thought that was gonna be the case, and then the cowboys, indians AND slaves would have an uprising...but instead they see a bunch of stoned hippies looking at the light lol.
Comment by The Dork Knight on August 1, 2011 at 10:44pm I will say, the biggest downfall for me was Olivia Wilde's plot twist...I just thought "did you REALLY have to?"...I will say, seconds before 'that' happened I liked what happened to her character...because it finally felt like there was a purpose. and THEN...a magic trick pretty much.
The drawn out parts were kind of useless, but I didnt mind them, 1 of them had a lot of heart...the other (while walking) was pretty unnecessary...ONLY used for that useless character to have it come full circle in the end...for no reason.
I gotta say about Sam Rockwell...I wouldnt say he was completely wasted ONLY because he was one of my favorite characters (well really I only liked him, Craig, Ford, and Carradine)...but he was wasted in a way where his character should have filled up more space than Noah Ringer!!! That character's only purpose was to cause worry among the gang and main characters. In the end he was just...idk, there to see his grandpa???
Still, I would give this a low Full Price for some reason, i honestly dont know why, but when I saw it at midnight, it was very forgiving in so many ways. It also helped that I was pretty high and had a redbull to keep me going. Plus the audience made me laugh sometimes..but they REALLY enjoyed it. It only seemed like a few people complained (and was only because what the aliens were after)...other than that, it held my attention the whole time.
I will say it was odd w/ Harrison Ford lol...and yet i ended up really respecting his character in the end...but at the beginning im like "this guy is evil as hell"...then not long after hes like this really charming nice guy lol.
Even one of the funniest parts was when him and Craig are slowly walking towards a spacecraft...and the way he would look at Craig was hilarious. He just had that classic confused Ford expression.
Sam Rockwell was like a tease somehow...at the beginning and some of the middle, I was excited to see he had a pretty good role, was very likeable, people ALWAYS laughed when he was doing something funny (even got the only applause in the entire movie when he fucks up an alien)...so he was one of the most memorable characters for me and the audience i was with, BUT other characters definitely got in the way. He should have had more things to do than Olivia Wilde and Noah Ringer combined..PLUS the time he already had.
It was like a big budget B-Movie to me, and thats not necessarily bad when they have a good cast and director.
