Comment by Los on June 29, 2011 at 10:57am I grew up with Transformers and to this day still buy a few toys whenever I'm in Japan. They got some dope transformers there. There's nothing better than having a puff and a laugh while watching a 1980's transformer cartoon marathon. I have the 1986 animated movie memorized word for word.
Now I gotta admit, when I heard they were going to make a new movie in 2007 I was really hoping it would be an animation based on the Dreamwave comics. I really didn't see how they could make a decent believable live action movie out of Transformers.
In every Transformer tv show or comic the main goal was to sell toys. Therefore story and logic were meaningless. The joy was to see the new robots introduced. See what they transformed into, what their weapons were, what their special abilities were and what role they played on their respective team: Autobot or Decepticon. We watched and read to admire the artwork and creativity involved in the design of these robots.
I loved both of the live action movies. Not because I like stupid movies with no plot and bad acting, but because I appreciated what they had done with the design of the robots. Each and every robot is based on a character or toy from the past. What they did with them is F@#$%N awesome. My only complaint about the movies was the lack of dialog for the transformers. But at least Megatron, Prime, and Starscream's personality and dialogs were spot on. And in many ways Bumblebee is too.
The bad humor, stereotyping, and over the top action and visuals are all very Transformery and I'm feeling it. If there is a movie franchise Bay should be directing, it's this one. But only this one lol. I can't possibly imagine any director turning these films into academy award winners. This is exactly what it needs to be. An epic toy commercial.
I'm going to see this movie on Sunday in 4D. That's right, 4D! The chair will be moving, wind blowing in my face, and all that. It's gonna be sick.
I understand if everyone here doesn't like this movie. That's your opinion. Or is it? Stop hating. These movies were made for people like me. And believe it or not there are a lot of us. Just look at the user ratings on rotten tomatoes
