Thomas the Tank Engine Chugging to the Big Screen

Source: Deadline

Shane Acker, director of the 2009 animated film '9', has joined forces with rights-owner Hit Entertainment to bring the second feature-length live-action adaptation of the classic UK series 'Thomas the Tank Engine' to theaters (the first being the utterly forgettable 'Thomas and the Magic Railroad' - thanks, Slusho98!)

Written by Chris Viscardi, Will McRobb ('Alvin and the Chipmunks') and Josh Klausner ('Shrek Forever After'), the film will revolve around a pre-teen boy and his father, who have drifted apart. When the boy discovers the Isle of Sodor (home to Thomas and other talking trains) and learns that his father used to visit there but can no longer remember, the two share an adventure together and reconnect with each other.

The most famous human occupant of the Isle, Mr. Conductor, is likely to return in some form (and knowing kids movies will likely end up handing over the job over to the boy or his father). In previous versions, Mr. Conductor has been played by George Carlin (in 'Shining Time Station'), Ringo Starr (in 'Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends'), and Alec Baldwin (in the aforementioned 'Thomas and the Magic Railroad').

I'm one of the people who really enjoyed 9. It would be interesting to see how Shane Acker handles a proporty like this.

I just hope they use the old theme song, not that new bullshit song they have for the CGI shows.

The original series with Ringo Starr narrating was a huge part of my childhood. Then of course it has to be changed to CGI and fucked in the arse. Bollocks to that shit.

Remember that track Video Killed the Radio Star? they should remake it and call it "Computer Graphics killed the Practical Effects" or "Remaking Killed Originality" or something in that range, since it literally has been that this past decade, I'm tired of saying fuck hollywood and media corporations for this bull aside from exploiting this stuff for their own greedy benefits, instead fuck the mindless masses that conform to this! fuck all of them. because of them we're gonna be plagued with this crap for decades to come!

OMG! Looks like they are running out of both steam and ideas! Thomas and the Magic Railroad was bullshit! Nostalgia Critic needs to review that movie! First they rapped Inspector Gadget, then Garfield, then Underdog, then Yogi Bear, then Smurfs, and now Thomas! What's next? Curious George? I hope not! Don't hate me for this but I liked Alvin and the Chipmunks a little bit. And I liked Shrek Forever After better than Shrek the Third. I miss George Carlin. He was amazing as Fillmore in Cars. R.I.P.

And Hollywood's reboot pursuit is running out of steam

No. No, no, NO! This show already entered its low point come Season 8 (I mean, for me, the low points began at Season 6) and they already Americanized the hell out of this franchise with the first movie.  Why another one?!

I'd watch the movie if they had Samuel L. Jackson as the conductor who is hallucinating the whole time that these trains were talking to him. Have his character be at a highly elevated stage of annoyance when he tries to convince people he isn't crazy. "I'M TIRED OF THESE MOTHAFUCKIN FACES ON THESE MOTHAFUCKIN TRAINS!"

George CARLIN? He's that funny swearing old dude on comedy central! In a kids movie? Well he was in Cars too.

R.I.P.
