Can 'This Is It' Really Be Considered One Of The Best Films Of The Year?

It's been more than a day since I left the theater after Michael Jackson's This Is It ended and the question keeps bothering me, Should I consider this movie which I really enjoyed, one of the year's best or not?

Watch below as I try to answer that question in my review of Michael Jackson's This Is It:

Now, many of you know by now that This Is It was #2 on my list of 10 movies that I was looking forward to for the rest of the year behind A Christmas Carol. So, I had a lot of high anticipation for this. And usually, my high anticipations for movies don't hold up afterwards like with The Simpsons Movie and, more importantly, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (more on why I've drastically changed my mind on that film coming up later on this week).

The film is basically a mix of a concert film and a documentary in which segments of $60 million worth of footage is featured through the film through three different practice sessions for Jackson's highly anticipated sold out 'This Is It' concerts in London. The essential Jackson songs, Thriller, Bad, Black & White, The Way You Make Me Feel, Billie Jean, Wanna Be Startin' Something, and Man In The Mirror, are featured in the film along with some others.

The film's end credits play the recently released song This Is It, which is personally, my favorite song from Jackson since You Are Not Alone. Here's the song courtesy of Youtube:

Now, I'm a huge fan of Michael Jackson but even if I wasn't that big of a fan, I really believe that I still would've enjoyed this movie for what it is, a fun little tribute to the king of pop that shows his true creative talent in what would've been a kick ass show.

I really enjoyed this movie a lot but as I said before, I don't know whether or not to classify it as one of the best films of the year because it's a concert film, which I felt the same thing for U2 3D earlier last year. The decision maker will depend on what kind of movies come out within the next two months before I write up my list of the 10 best films of the year in Janaury.

Also, when I say Best Films Of The Year, I don't mean at the Academy Awards, I mean, the ten best films of the year list. Could it be an oscar contender? I say the chances are slim to none but I will hold out hope.

Despite that, this is still the best concert film I've ever seen. It's a great tribute to a true creative genius, the performances by Jackson and the backup dancers were really enjoyable, and anytime I'm quietly singing the songs to myself so I'm not making a lot of noise, that's the sign of a good performer.

While I've yet to decide on whether or not this is one of the best things I've seen this year, I'm still giving it a very high

for big fans of Michael Jackson and even not-so-big fans of MJ. I really believe that you'll have a great time with this movie.

I remember when they released the song "This is It" and this is the first time I've listened to it...I liked it. It reminds me of a few of his ballads put together. Love the guitar and simple beats.

If terrific movies like 'Hoop Dreams' and pretty much every 'Pixar' movie couldn't make it there, then I highly doubt that 'This Is It' could make it. Afterall, it isn't even in the same caliber as 'Hoop Dreams'. But, you could possibly expect it to make an appearance in a different catagory (documentary). However, I always the 'Oscars' and their "Sub-Best Picture" catagories. The "Best Animated Movie" catagory is like a resounding "FUCK YOU!" to moviegoers. If the movie itself is terrific, moviegoers have the right to know.
