One of the first things that happened when Disney purchased Lucasfilm last year, and announced they were putting new 'Star Wars' films into development, was that practically everyone associated with any previous 'Star Wars' property came out of the woodwork to declare in interviews that they were interested in, or at least open to, returning to the franchise. This was most likely due to the fact that it became the number one question any interviewer asked them at that point, and didn't mean anything in terms of an actual deal. However, today Latino Review is claiming to have confirmation that Harrison Ford is officially returning as Han Solo. During a televised interview, a spokesperson for the scoop-happy movie news site stated that they apparently have a legitimate source inside the studio and have "triple checked" the authenticity of this bombshell. It is not known at this time whether he will return for 'Episode VII' or one of the spin-offs. In fact, we're not even sure if it will be a cameo or a central role, though the deal is said to be substantial. As of this posting, Disney has not confirmed Ford's return.
So many huge grains of salt here. I'm always weary of Latino Review's scoops, but to their credit, I've never seen them so assured of their accuracy that they went on TV to broadcast a scoop. Granted, if they are wrong, they'll just claim the studio is "false denying." All that said, devil's advocate time, I really and truly hope that Harrison Ford is only returning to the role of Solo as a cameo. I love this character, and I am very much looking forward to a new batch of 'Star Wars' films free of the influence of a completely out-of-touch George Lucas, but the worst thing J.J. Abrams could do at this point is build in a series of winks and nods to the original series that end up being more memorable than the new storylines. Plus, as I've said before, and as much as I adore Harrison Ford, he's far too old to be an action hero anymore. That's not ageist so much as it is based on the woeful 'Crystal Skull' precedent. Hopefully he will be utilized in the same fashion as was Leonard Nimoy in Abrams' 'Star Trek.'
What do you guys think? Are you happy about the prospect of Harrison Ford returning as Han Solo? How big of a role do you think older Solo will play?

Comment by I'm Batman on February 16, 2013 at 4:44pm I think things will get much worse for this franchise before they get better. J.J. is the wrong guy and it would have been great to have sequels back when these actors were in their prime but now the main cast is so old and it's time for SW to go into a brand new direction. J.J. is just going to make something slightly better then the prequels and that's not hard to do.
Comment by GodDamnRobots on February 16, 2013 at 4:43pm Good point. It is just a rumor, after all.
Also your early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think you really came into your own commercially and artistically.
To GodDamnRobots: Big baby.
Comment by Dr. Detfink on February 16, 2013 at 9:11am Can we get a Wedge spin-off? ;)
Comment by Dustin Scarsdale on February 16, 2013 at 8:28am Hey Fuck it. If Ford wants to come back, then let's bring in Fisher, too...That's all I was missing - an aged Solo and his OLD FAT PRINCESS Wife tooling around the galaxy like Space Truckers....Drinking beer...and getting fatter.
Comment by Mark Penver on February 16, 2013 at 5:56am We're getting an origin story of the Ewoks.
Comment by Allan on February 16, 2013 at 3:21am Many many rumors, not enough facts...
Comment by Woosp Vision on February 16, 2013 at 12:12am Terrible idea. Too old, a poor execution will lead to fanboy outrage of Jarjar to the power 8 levels.
Do something new, try to neutralize expectations (if that was possible...) not raise the bar by having Han in there. By doing this you are shooting yourself (first...) in the foot IMO.
Comment by Ian The Birthday Boy on February 15, 2013 at 10:53pm Can I start a stars wars rumor?
Lando Calrissian is getting his own spin off and Anthony Mackie is going to play him.
I disagree with you C i think reporting articles like this weather true or false provokes intresting post/conversations.... Isnt that what spill wants? more activity? but to your point, yea this looks like 'Star Wars the Crystal Skull'. I love Han but im not a fan of this true or false.
